Both. I have a D-Blue and must say it's my all-time favorite watch. I also love the new red SD and hope to be able to add one to my collection.

The 43MM SD is the proportions I was hoping for... at 40 MM the SD was just a fat azz submariner

I picked DBlue as it's been my grail and only just managed to add it to my collection. It may all change when I see the SD43 in the metal.

Too tough to call without seeing the new SD. I have the DSSD and love it. It's a great piece, tons of wrist presence. I think they'll be similar, as far as thickness, so probably a weekend/short sleeve watch for the new SD. I couldn't vote either way without seeing the new model.

You need a third option .... BOTH
Seriously, I feel these are two very different pieces and both would go well in a collection. The DSSD: 5mm domed crystal, gradient dial, extra adjustable glidelock clasp, and of course the over engineered depth rating case architecture The SD50: new case in perhaps a more wearable size, 50th anniversary commemorative red lettering |

I voted for the SD43 but would have to see it in person and try it on. I have owned the DSSD and it is a great watch. If I was in the market for one or the other I would also have to consider pricing and if the SD43 did not hit me as great when I put it on, I would go with a black dial DSSD. It can be had for around 8K, pre-owned and complete. The dial on the DSSD-Blue is not worth 3K to me.

Neither as they are both too large for me to wear

I prefer the D-Blue, but both are fantastic pieces
But I don't see why the future value is of any importance. Just buy the one you like wear it and enjoy |

I'll let you know soon enough. My AD is supposed to have some kind of party to view and try the Basel releases. Not sure when. I will definitely try the new SD side by side with my DSSDB and take some pictures.
Like I told my AD, I REALLY hope I hate the SD. I have a Bluesy sub and the DSSD. Do I really need a 3rd diver?

D Blue fo sho...king of divers, better looking dial, no Cyclops, and more wrist presence. If sized properly, the D Blue can be a very comfortable watch especially considering its size and weight. BTW, I'm not a fan of red text on SD43 either.

DSSD for the technical marvel of it... it's the BicMac..
SD43 is a double quarter-pounder... SD4K is the quarter-pounder How hungry are you? Clearly I am pretty hungry tbf I'd say I'm in the liking SD43 camp, it's a good 'obviously Rolex' tool watch.. the Sub 4x4 you could say. The DSSD is the Unimog, with the D-Blue adding yet still more je ne sais quoi. Just wondering if I can add any more analogies in to this post |

The new SD43 is going to out sell and steal sales from the DSSD - especially in black - which is not going to extend its model life and may shorten its time in the lineup. It will also steal some sales from the SS Sub.
Why? The SD43 is the full sized sub that full sized Rolex fans have been waiting for: The 43mm size competes against the Planet Oceans/Panerai/Super Oceans in a way the 40mm sub simply cannot. The cyclops is a Rolex icon, a signature trait that the DSSD lacks. The dial is larger and cleaner without the distraction of the ring lock. The redline screams historic legacy. It has the latest and greatest movement with a massive additional power reserve. The band is wider at the clasp, making it more visually proportional. Finally, it is every bit the beast on the wrist as the DSSD, and it looks more like a traditional stainless Rolex dive watch than the Deep-Blue. Many will point out that's a heck of price difference for what is essentially a full sized Sub model. But the price is the price and if you want the larger size you have to pay the premium. Rolex will throw in a deeper dive rating and a new movement to help ease the financial pain. The Deep Blue is a different Rolex. Only two manned expeditions have been made to the deepest part of the ocean, and Rolex has been involved both times. This history, combined with the ring lock tech, 5mm thick distorting crystal and impossible to survive depth rating make this the king of ALL dive watches. Personally, I like the fact that Deep Blue breaks from the traditional Rolex sub look making it a more modern Rolex design. The blue fade is amazing, and it really does connect the wearer to the story of the deep abyss. But, I'm biased - I wear this watch almost every day by choice. It's my Rolex. If I was walking in to the AD and both watches were there, even for me it would be a tougher choice - tradition vs. ultimate. Black vs. Blue. 50th Anniversary story vs. Rolex Exploring the deepest part of the ocean. Really tough. One thing I would never consider is future value. I wear the watches and keep them for decades and I'm not convinced that classic watches (or classic dinosaur burners for that matter) will appeal to future generations of humans in the same quantities they do today. Today's rapidly aging demographics is looming large over future prices. So buy (and wear) for yourself, not the next owner. No, but I play one on TV... |

Deep Blue. I have a feeling they are going to make a ton of the SD43 and we'll be seeing them all over.

Definitely Deepsea Blue - it's the most technical diver Rolex ever designed. There is nothing in the luxury watch market to comprare with the Deepsea Blue.
I have a GMT BLNR and just sold my Daytona C to hunt for a Deepsea Blue. |

SD, Deepsea is likely too bulky for my small wrist.

In the US it seems they're both fairly easy to get hold of, and certainly 'trusted sellers' could secure you one of either fairly promptly I suspect. No Sea-Dweller has ever come with a cyclops before the new current SeaDweller 43mm case 50th anniversary model (SD43/SD50). |

I voted SD43 but cannot say for certain. I like the look of the James Cameron but I tried one on the other day and they are just too big and bulky for my taste. I have yet to see the SD43 but I think it would be a bit more wearable. I wish they would have left the cyclops off for traditions sake but I could probably deal with that.
