I want a cool - not so spendy - Black watch
Ye olde watch fund is non-existent these days. However, I keep thinking the next one should be a bit different.
I've seen the new Heuer Monza, IWC, Zenith and even Omega models which look semi-appealing. I have plenty of time...Any thoughts / ideas / black watch musings? |

Omega SeaMaster, any with a black and wavy dial. Like Mercedes and BMW the year doesn't matter. The classics are classics.

I bought a black watch with black bracelet on Amazon. I forget the brand but it is quartz, looks good, and cost like 200 bucks.

Yes Sir. The triangle marker at 12 looks just like a slice of pizza doesn't it?The ebay prices for the Eterna Kon Tiki timepieces are just insane....
People dont realize this but the LE 70th Anniversary Bronze edition fitted with the in-house Calibre 39 and patented spherodrive technology would be worth a small fortune in a few yrs. The photo below is the original hand built Kon Tiki raft by the Norwegians that now resides in the Kon Tiki Muzium in Oslo and faithfully engraved on the caseback |

Look into Nomos. Clean designs and great craftsmanship at reasonable prices.

I tried on the new limited edition Heuer Monza around a month ago at the local boutique. I really liked it. Modern yet vintage, the weight, balance, height, just great. I probably would have bought it, but the sales woman wouldn't play ball. She did offer me a Tag Heuer leather racing jacket. I didn't know at the time that it was worth around a grand. Maybe I'll go back and take another look. I have a soft spot for Heuer from watching racing in the 70s and again now with my son. It's a cool watch and has a real sporty presence that a lot of sport watches lack. I just wish it had an in house movement, though if it did it would probably be a ghastly oversized hockey puck.
See if you can find one to try on.

Thank you for your thoughts on this. I wish it was smaller / true to size with the original... I may try to find it at the Tag boutique in Vegas this summer... I bet the price is nice - used. Appreciate feed back from others as well. I should have made it clear I was looking not just at a black dial, but black case watch. Not a fan of Tudor I'm afraid. |

It's hard to beat the DSOTM. I've tried it on many times and it is a wonderful watch. It's big, but wears well and it's extremely light so comfort is not an issue.

my budget black watch. Limited edition of 500, got it for under $300. Was enough to scratch my itch of a black cased watch, and realize they're probably not for me. I find I almost always prefer the SS version. |

Oris Divers Sixty-Five on a strap or bracelet? Well within the budget, even if you get the bracelet & then pick up the strap, and very cool....

Or!
IWC Mark XVIII....strap or bracelet (the bracelet is so silky smooth and very comfortable)...a bit more than the Oris, but within the budget and very cool as well. |

I also had the blacked out watch bug and did alot of searching. I like the Omega DSOTM but after owning the GSOTM I found the watch to be less appealing and at the high end of what I wanted to pay for a limited duty watch for me. I realy like the Tudor Black Bay Dark. Tried it on several times at my AD but I own a Black Bay Black and the feel was not as strong as it should be. My AD had the Tag Heuer Monza and it was an immediate must have. The case, face and strap are just what I was looking for in my blacked out watch. Retro design, modern size, cool strap and great fit. This is a Limited Edition Watch though and can still be found. My AD has one in the vault so if you are interested PM me and I can pass on the contact information.

Wow
Thanks for all the great feedback guys - and you too "Megan" The DSOTM is interesting...a big watch though, and I already have a garden-variety Speedy. I do like the Heuer (No "Tag" on logo) models... the IWCs with black cases like this have some strong appeal, but out of budget for a while! I think these are on the larger side as well. |

Ceramic cases still scare me. Once I saw a few of the broken Panerai, IWC, Hublot, etc. I knew they weren't for me.

I quite like Damasko and Sinn, both do black watches and are built to last.
