Crazier things have happened (or just as crazy). Just look at Daytona 116520 and Kermit pricing these days

I feel sorry for the U.K. as all the forum reports a huge supply and demand from Rolex to the entire country.

Not because I have one, but the majority of people that brought this watch are wearing it. There may be some safe queens out there, but other than people looking for a quick cash out, people will not sell.

The way this was discontinued, can mean only one thing for future prices.

Introduced at Basel March 2014, In stores around July 2014, if I recall correctly. I also heard no more were expected to arrive after November 2016, so I'd say you're definitely in the right ballpark. Just over two years.

Really love mine. If I could only have one Rolex it would be my SD4k. Bought mine new in August of 2014. If I recall I received a 10% discount.

With certain models certainly but not relevant to this discussion. The SD4K could be found in every ADs window in the country.

It says you are in the UK, but from your comment about SD4k being in every AD window I am assuming that you are somewhere else.

These models certainly can not be found in every window at all. You might be lucky and find one tucked away at an AD, but when people realised they had or where going to be discontinued they disappeared very quickly.

My AD sold his last one about Jan/Feb.

The prices will steadily climb imo and when the initial crop have been sold to would be investors then there could well be a dearth as owners hang on to them and watch prices rise, this in turn will push prices higher.

Hence the word 'could'.

There wasn't a supply issue on this model in the UK. Until it was discontinued.

In which case I apologise as I read it that they could be found now.

Before they were discontinued they were the most coomnly found SS rolex piece in AD's

Thats right and no problem

There were posts suggesting the fact the SD4K was being sold well above list as an isolated situation in the UK because we have poor supply on some SS models. I was just pointing out that there never was a supply issue on the SD4K. So it's not relevant.

If anyone wants one or two of these, PM me as I know where a AD has a pair that have been collecting dust for quite some time and I am sure they would be glad to move them.

Think about it this way, it will go down in history as the very last 40mm SD (Rolex of any kind, for that matter) without a cyclops. Not to mention with the added benefits of the ceramic bezel and updated bracelet.

I am not sure if this adds anything to the discussion regarding past availability of this watch. I bought mine on 31st October 2016 - yes, the day before the 10% price increase if you recall.

I had a very difficult time trying to find one. I started hitting the phone that morning (only knowing about the impending price rise that morning), and must have phoned at least 20 ADs. I found one place that had one in stock (with the help of TRF actually!), and bought it that evening for £6,900. The price went to £7,600 the next day.

Mid to late last year I don't believe this watch was readily available in the UK.

I remember your post on it. You dropped very nice for that one. I actually bought a Sub ND a few weeks before the brexit vote, I had the sub in one hand and the SD in the other, at the time like most people I thought about it and decided not to pay the £1900 extra for not much difference. In hindsight think I missed out big time there tbh.

Yes after brexit everything disappeared off the shelf, when the rest of the world suddenly got an instant discount at our expense.

If we're on the same page here, they have three two-year old references on their website at £8,950 and a year old one at £9,250.

Personally, I'd wait it out because unlike the Daytona and D-Blue I don't think those process are sustainable. It was never a difficult watch to come by in the first place.

Bought mine at retail when it came out (before I knew about TRF). Just hoping to break even on resell value, although I'm never gonna sell it!!! It's way too beat up for anybody to want it anyway haha....

My bad, should've said 'those prices are not sustainable'. Damn auto-correct

Yes, they've reached a price that's slowed down sales. At £8,500 they weren't staying with that retailer more than 48 hours.
