126529L Le Mans Out of hand
I like the Le Mans Daytona. But the secondary market pricing is just crazy. Anyone care to guess where this one settles? I'm guessing $80-100K, but $250K on the secondary market seems unsustainable, IMO.

I think it would settle at 50% higher than the price of the diamond markers platona.

Allocations seem super tight, I do not see it dropping below 100k. Not even down to 100k.

I hope they don’t produce many and it stays well over the $100k mark. The changes to the movement probably make it more annoying/expensive to produce over anything other than the ornate gemset variants. Same thing with the custom bezel.

Assuming Rolex is a profit maximizing enitity, why wouldn't they produce as many of these as they can?
Grey trading at prices $100K to $300K doesn't directly impact their bottom line. I am sure the LeMan demand will always exceed supply...why shouldn't Rolex make more money?

If I thought it would be easy to obtain I wouldn’t buy it. I’d probably rather have a John Mayer, almost bought one when those came out. |

Way above $100k that is if you can even get a chance to get one on the secondary market. This watch is and will be a white elephant and a tier one collectors piece.

Personally I’d like to see all genuine watch fans able to buy the watches they want to wear and enjoy. But that’s just me.

Ah OK, so you want one to flip and make money out of. As I said, personally speaking I’d like to see all genuine watch fans able to buy the watches they want to wear and enjoy. Watches are never about making money for me, but that’s just me. We're all different. Good luck.

I totally get what you mean, the secondary market price for the Le Mans Daytona can be mind boggling, its hard to say where it will settle, but $80-100k seems more reasonable to me too. $250k does sound pretty steep.

I like the colorway a lot but don't really care for the subdial brick-on-a-stick indexes.
I like my Daytona better for sure.

It's too early to know. The initial batch of lefty GMTs traded at $50k+ and are now well below 100% of that. I personally don't see it being that much more than a platinum Daytona (reference 126)

An alternative viewpoint is the cost-avoidance model of “free money”. That is, if one wishes badly to have one, and the secondary market price is over $100-200K, then an allocation at MSRP by an AD is freeing up at least $60-160K. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Totally wrong I’m afraid. I couldn’t care less what other people wear. I buy watches I like, not to show them off, or for some sort of “social validation” by having something other people haven’t got. Just not me at all. But like I say, we’re all different in our motivations.

A “true enthusiast”. I still have the first nice watch I ever bought and not in a safe. I just have the spend history with my AD to get allocations and if I can get special hype pieces I’m going to buy them because you can’t lose on them. |

If I can buy it for MSRP and it trades for a multiple then I can use it for free. It’s like in the late 90s early 2000s you could buy a 50 watt Marshall JCM 800 on eBay, play it as much as you want for a few years, then get your money back when you sell it. I had a steel Daytona many years ago and I traded it for an AP. I wore it and even scratched the crap out of the clasp and I got more in trade than I paid for it (thanks TS). So if you have taken the hit buying watches and jewelry over the years and you’re able to get an allocation for something like this, why not buy it? I bought PM pieces when you could get BNIB from TS for 30% off. And then… if you do buy it; why not want it to trade at a multiple? |

Not many people have over $6,000+ in disposable funds to spend on a watch, and even if they do, they just wouldn’t. Maybe you’ve been affluent since birth or well off for a long time that you’ve lost touch, but the percentage of people able or willing to spend thousands, or even tens of thousands, is small, so there's no need to worry about your precious Rolex being commonplace.
