These photos look great. Thank you.

I snagged one from Hodinkee but was in such a hurry to buy it I didn't even see the shipping options. Mine is coming by ground transport, so I won't get it until Wednesday, per the UPS tracking.

Nice.

Got my shipping notification. Should have mine tomorrow.

Will also report back with pictures.

Mike, thanks for sharing. I agree that the shots from Hodinkee and the Seiko site almost looked like different watches. But the pictures you provided match what I hoped the watch would be. Thank you!

Congrats Syed, I am still waiting (telling myself patience is a virtue)...

looks like hodonkee over sold so they are cancelling some people's orders.

Unfortunately, we are unable to fulfill your Seiko U.S. Limited Edition Alpinist SPB089 order at this time, as our system mistakenly accepted more orders than watches we have available.

You will be receiving an order cancellation notice and refund very shortly.

We expect to receive more of these watches in the summer, and will keep your name at the top of the waitlist so that you are notified first when these become available.

We sincerely apologize for the error and for any inconvenience this may have caused, and truly appreciate your support.

All best, The HODINKEE Shop Team

The Seiko Site is doing the same thing:
"Order #xxxx was canceled because we did not have enough stock to fulfill your order and your payment has been refunded ."

Sorry to hear.

That's annoying but at least we know there will be more in a few months.

Thanks for sharing pics, Mike. That looks really good, and nothing like the poor lighting picture I posted.

Sorry to hear about the Hodinkee cancellations. Summer? Yeah, not sure what that implies. I thought these were LE - unless they produced only half and produce the other half later.

Quite welcome. Hope there are more delivered soon to those Hodinkee orders.
I’ll try to get some daylight pictures outside tomorrow to better showcase the dial. Overall it’s a good looking watch in my opinion.

Yesterday I got an email from Hodinkee Shop that they needed extra time to process the order at their warehouse.

Today I got shipping notification. The watch should get to me in SF on Monday.

You can see from the case back photo above that these are numbered, with a total of 1959 being produced. Not all 1959 will have been produced in one run, hence more still to come later in the year.

They're all being flipped on ebay right now at an average of $1000.

I suppose. Highest I saw was until 800+ - we’ll see from the last batch of shipments too

I’m impressed!

I’ve been following a Hamilton Panda chrono on Amazon. $1995 for months, now in the $1500s. May be different for the Alpinist, especially if “limited edition” means anything.

Here are a couple outdoor shots of the dial. Cloudy day, so no direct sunlight on the dial face.

I like it the more I look at it. Definitely darker than what Hodinkee’s photos made it appear to be.

Nice.

Those pictures are the best yet. So much depends on lighting and in natural light I think it's looking pretty good.

Mine is out for delivery. Will report back sometime in the evening.

Mine has been delivered. Can't wait to go home and check it out.

I don't see it happening, but if for some reason I absolutely hate it, I will let someone here on TRF get it for whatever I paid. Don't want to be scalper and I will cover the shipping.

Sadly for me I have missed the boat on this one , but best wishes to all that have been lucky enough to pick one up . The Alpinist has to me been one of Seikos best watches ,that has really sneaked under the radar for so long & until it's discontinuation wasn't really appreciated by most . But in this LE it shows the Alpinist in the best light it could , but I'm still happy to have an original

New blue LE Alpinist!

The blue is a nice dark Matt blue. Quality is good, it got me thinking, are other watches really 10, 100 or more times better? I know the movement is a big factor but .... anyway, I stopped thinking just enjoy them all I guess! This is the first sub-thousand watch I will actually wear in a long long time!

Not too bad at all. Dials color shifts a lot depending on the lighting.

Needed a blue dial in the mix.

Looks awesome, Gents. How do you like the leather strap?

Finally got my order confirmation and tracking information.

The strap is ok. A little thicker than it probably should be, but not bad overall. Way better than the strap that came with the green dial version.

Not as soft/pliable as some higher quality straps but it will do.

I would rate the strap 6 out of 10. Based on what I hear about the original brown strap, this is not bad. I can wear it no problem, and not have the urge to immediately get a new one. It does say Chinese made on the strap.

Congrats to all the lucky ones.
Meanwhile not only was my order cancelled by Seiko USA, but my CC was charged and the charge posted today rather than being refunded/cancelled as Seiko said it would. As a huge fan of Seiko and GS, I am disappointed in this level of customer service.
