For me the YG Day-Date with champagne stick dial and SS Black Submariner are some of the most iconic watches that Rolex makes. This is their modern take on these watches, the DD40 which I’ve had for a year or two and the Submariner Date which my AD just delivered for me yesterday.

I have had a Sub in the past but I had bought it used and I always like to have a new watch when possible, so I decided to sell it for RRP to someone and set the money aside to get a new one from my AD as soon as he had one for me!

I have had most of the coloured ceramic bezels Rolex makes, Hulk, BLRO and CHNR but honestly I think black is king of the ceramic bezels, Rolex ceramic black is just so incredibly rich and deep, a real treat on the wrist. I love the other colours as part of a collection, but if it has to be only one - for me it is the LN every time.

I think this is a great pair of watches, hard to beat in terms of all round versatility and I am really proud to have these two in my collection.

And a photo with my wife’s YG Daytona alongside, all this talk of ‘icons’ wouldn’t be complete without a Daytona in there! If only this had a glide lock we could just about share it.

Thank you, the Daytona is an awesome watch and I love admiring it on her wrist as she uses it all the time! I have been thinking about trying to get her the SS Daytona for a ‘big number’ birthday she has coming up this year, a ceramic bezel would be good for day to day.

My old pair was black sub I wore daily I
Could care less about scratching and my dd40 black motiff. I sold them and went off deep end I have been through 10
Watches now and still can’t find happiness. I told
My wife I need to just go back to the same combo and be happy. Plus my ad told me they could get me dd40 and a white face Daytona together if I packaged. Imagine that ? Might be the right move for me. Order a rose gold chocolate dd40 and another sub and get her the Daytona she wants. Great combo you have !!!!

Thanks! That’s really interesting, I feel exactly the same way about these 2. The black sub date is such a great work horse and is actually my favourite of all Rolex SS. Meanwhile the DD is so luxurious, it’s an awesome combination - I think you should definitely get them back and getting the Daytona for your wife at the same time would just make it perfect!
