Flip a seamaster 300 for Tudor Black Bay?

Hi guys,

I am thinking of flipping my seamaster pro 300 (bought brand new in 2012, with ceramic bezel) for a red bezel black bay. Mainly because I have grown tired of its looks, and I prefer to have a watch without date.

Now would this be considered taking a step back since
1. The seamaster has a somewhat 'in house' movement compared to the ETA in BB
2. The seamaster has a ceramic bezel
3. The seamaster has a date complication

Even so, the looks of the BB is really growing on me. And not to mention those hands are definitely more legible than the puny skeleton hands. And last but not least, getting a brand new watch is always exciting.

So should I? Or is it a really silly thing to do? Has anyone ever done such a flip and regretted? Please can I have your inputs thanks!

I've owned the cSMP and have worn a BB quite a few times. I prefer the Omega. It was more comfortable and IMO looks classier. But you can't go wrong with either; both are superb time pieces. Go with the one which makes you the most happy.

After wearing my SMPc for over a year, I would not trade it. It's a great everyday watch and has survived many rough encounters. I would however, pick up the Black Bay separately to supplement your collection.

I too think that I would shy away from a trade. The SMP is a classic!

After reading your "disadvantages" list for the bb, it got me thinking, if money is not the issue, how about a 114060? It seems to tick all your boxes, since you like in-house, ceramic and are not fond of the date.

I considered a 114060, but it's the lugs are a little too big and sticks out of my wrist slightly. The BB sits just nicely

What if I were to flip it for a Pelagos? Would it be better?

Both are nice watches, but there is a reason why you are giving your SMP second thoughts. You might simply like to have different watches every couple of year. You could purchase 2-3 reasonably priced watches that differ from one another (style, functionality, color) to add variety to what you wear vs really creating a "collection". I like the Black Bay since it is a nice balance between the best in vintage and modern watches.

My only complain with the Omega is the lack of micro adjustment on the clasp. If that's a deal breaker for you, then do the switch, otherwise, to me, the Omega is the better watch here.

I agree with most of the other TRF'ers and MUCH prefer the Omega to the Tudor.

But I always keep in mind that this whole watch thing is about personal taste, and you always have to pick the one that "sings to you" at that point in time.

And, just to make things a bit more complicated, have you considered the 14060 or Seamaster PO 2500?
