I think it just depends on the person. For me, it makes me feel connected to the watch and I enjoy doing it (even with some of my Speedies tighter than others so it's almost painful). For someone like my wife.....she is completely appalled by it....especially when she sees me spend larger $$ like on the Snoopy watch and CK2998 knowing they're manual wind.

that said & personally speaking, I would much rather own an older Rolex Daytona & from a 'vintage' standpoint...a 6238/Pre-Daytona.

IMHO this is the way to go. So I went there.

6239 - The first Daytona that actually says "Daytona" on it and the first Daytona with contrasting subdials.

Of course, this is only my opinion, but these are THE two chronographs to have and I am very happy and very lucky to have them.

Nice watch to wear but considering that it is a manual movement I do find the crown a little on the small side for winding.

I don't think the crown is small. It's the asymmetric case that covers up half the crown that makes it a little difficult to wind. If you want an easier Speedmaster to wind, get a 105.003 or earlier.
But I'll tell you, an automatic is easier to drive than a 6-speed. But I'm keeping my six speed and revel every time I go through the gears.

Hi Tinkster,
If you are talking about my Moonwatch, it's actually a 1506 bracelet with #16 end links. I believe that is more rare than the 1039. Thanks for noticing and commenting.

I'm the opposite, I was always underwhelmed with the moon watch until I tried it on. Now I can't stop thinking of how to add one to the collection, and which one at that. I'm leaning towards the sapphire sandwich because I like seeing the movement and the plastic (sorry, hesalite) crystal was not for me. Even though I own a Daytona 116520 with a 116500 incoming, I must admit, I can barely read the time elapsed on the Daytona. With the moonwatch, it would be nice to have a Chrono in the collection I could read.

Been debating on a Rolex two-tone sub and the price just isn't that great from AD....

So now I am back to considering the moon watch.

I did try it out two weeks ago and I wasn't that impress especially the MRSP price! Never going to pay $6900CAD plus taxes...

But looking at these picture posted in this thread, is a pretty nice watch! I really should buy used but don't know how... hmm...

I was the same way. When I went to a AD to get a link removed from my Sub I loved the speedmasters until I actually held one and it just didn't "do it" for me like a Rolex does. I am biased big time. But I agree.

Speedy is incredible. Didn't understand until I owned it. Now I have flipped every other watch I've owned except this one and my Smurf.

I've had a speedmaster and enjoyed it. I sold it later, but I resent it a bit. Should have stayed with it a little longer.

It's a great watch, but no watch is for everyone. As much as people love to say things like "every serious watch lover MUST have a Speedmaster Pro", the fact is everyone does NOT need to have one.

On the topic of this thread, maybe it's true that the Speedy Pro is not "overwhelmingly" beautiful. It's just a very utilitarian piece, and our perception of its beauty comes from its history and legend, and the romantic notion of the adventure of space travel.

If you want a truly beautiful Speedmaster that will not underwhelm you, check out the DSTOM. That thing is sweet!

I've owned many Omegas and just picked up my first Speedmaster. I found out the hard way that it's not water proof. I'm so used to Rolex and Tudor Subs I've worn I never thought about not putting it under water. $$$ lesson learned and just got it back from service.

I've always liked the look and for me it appears to be the most versatile watch of its type for wear especially with all the NATO variants. The Rolex Submariner edges it out since there are so many variations, but the Speedmaster should be in every vintage collection. Ed

Just put my Speedmaster on after a month in the box and it wears so comfortably.
As for waterproofness, I've worn it swimming with no issues.
It is a "goes with anything" kind of watch with street appeal. I've gotten more compliments on this watch vs my Rolex or Panerai.

I don't think I've worn the Speedy swimming (I have a SD for that), but I surely don't hesitate to wash it in the sink under running water just like all of my other watches. Never been a problem.

I just bought the 3570.50 and love it. It wears small I think on my 6.75 wrist. I love historically significant watches from the golden bygone era, steam travel, rail, etc. I have 5 watches that throwback to perceived simpler times. The Rolex Air King (5500), Seamaster 30, Speedmaster Pro, Seamaster Pro 300m and even an older Seiko sxk007 Diver. Only one I have yet to add, and its a biggie is a Submariner (No Date) ....and Im shopping now for one.

99.99% of people don't even know the 1st thing about watches now...thank you Google and Apple....
