Panerai 233 - I or J series
Trying to choose between the 2 series. What could be the better choice for collectors the 1st production or the smaller one 1000 run production. Appreciate your thoughts.

‘I’will always be the first, so therefore the lowest number overall. Both have desirable dotdial. Get the best one with the most complete set. Incredible watch btw. Mine is ‘I’

“Dot” is “dot”, IMHO: get the best combo of condition/service history/price.

all else equal, i'd probably go J (the earlier ones sometimes had trouble with the dial being a bit misaligned vs. the tooth power reserve indicator and it could get caught - Panerai ended up making the slot wider to avoid that.)
I have an 'I' that's been perfect though. Follow what other folks say, go for the best looking kit you can find at an acceptable price. |

Have the Dot dial here and quite happy with it. Mine didn't come with paper and etc., but watch was in perfect condition. If you want the box, papers, and etc., do look for one. I just care about the condition and the seller whom I'm buying the watch from. I picked bought mine in Japan.

I read it somewhere that if you get your old Dot dial service, they will replace the dial with a wider slot for the power reserve it it hasn't been replaced before.

Can't go wrong with either, you win by just having a 233. Mine will stay in my collection until the end.
