Vibration issue

Hello everyone,

Recently I am selling my home,so I have been putting my watches in a watch box in my car trunk for about a month and a half for safety reason. And still driving the car.

My question is will the constant vibration from car driving damage the movement causing the watches to be off on accuracy?

Thank you!

I don’t think the vibration would be an issue. I would be worried about the car getting stolen though.

How do you think the watches get from Switzerland to your wrist?

I’d keep them at work or around a friend’s or relation’s house.

Hi. I understand your point. But I’m talking 2 months of daily driving. I don’t think shipping from Switzerland takes 2 months of driving. I think there’s some difference there.

Thank you

I'm guessing that as long as you're not riding on a jackhammer, they'll be fine (. . . assuming they're not stolen from the car.)

I would assume the watches are in a box and cannot rattle around, so they would not get the same vibration as they would while wearing on the wrist that would be just common sense.

Yes they are in the watch box with watch pillows and I even put some cloth to fill the gaps so they don’t rattle around. But I know they still get the vibrations from driving , Turing ..etc

Thank you

In all seriousness, I would be more worried about what would happen to them in the event of theft or collision, especially if they're not insured. You must have flop sweat every time you see a car approach from behind when you're stopped at a signal.

Why don't you rent a short term safety deposit box at a bank ? I would be very worried leaving them in the trunk

Thank you all for the responses. The reason why I didn’t put them in a bank locker or safe was because at first I thought my house selling process would be quick. But unfortunately the market is not as good now. So I am now gona put the watches in the safe.

My question about vibration is regarding to the past 2 months while the watch was on the car

Use your own common sense, the watches being in a box in your car driving thousands of miles a day will have no effect on your watches. They would get much less shocks and vibration in the box in the car than on your wrist in daily everyday wearing end of story.

IMO: this is a valid question from OP's point of view. It's better be safe than sorry. However, I wouldn't be worry about vibration unless you riding extensive distance and it's off normal roads. People are putting they watches on watch winders for years at 800 tpd. I wouldn't expect Rolex $10k watch get damaged from riding in the car for a couple of month. But like others said it's better to keep them in the bank's safety box.

I’m sure they will be unaffected. I’d worry more about forgetting them being there and taking the car for service or car wash and having them disappear. Me, I’d get a safety deposit box at the bank to store them until I sold my home.

A better question would be how safe do you think they're going to be in the trunk of your car if you have an accident or someone steals your car?

If you're concerned, rent a safe deposit box at the bank and stick them there until you sell your house.

What if the trunk of the car is really an off balance washing machine and the car is a model T and his commute is 200 miles of cobblestone? Then what!

I’ll bet they’re being wound quite nicely.

A Rolex is unbelievably durable. I just wound mine from 1995 and it still keeps perfect time.

I’m just wondering why do you keep your watches in the car?!! How about a bank safe ? And no it won’t get damaged from the car vibration

It wouldn't be any real difference than being in a watch winder.

I think they're pretty safe with all the safety mechanisms you've put in place

I don't know about other brands, but my Orbita doesn't vibrate are create any jarring motions. It just gently rocks back and forth a few times an hour - not at all like the trunk of a car.

I wore mine drilling a couple of holes with a roto-hammer. They'll be fine.
