Rolex Datejust 36mm too small for man's wrist?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum. I joined as I want to get some advice on Datejusts...

I really would like to get myself a steel and rose gold Datejust but I fear they are just way too small and the Datejust ii is only available in yellow gold.

And I own a Cartier Santos 100. I love the size of that.

Does anybody know of a Datejust ii being released in steel and rose gold in the near future?

Or do you think it works well being a 36mm.

Advice and opinions please?

here is a link to the colorway and bracelet I want:

Welcome to the boards Ryan...

The one you've linked is yellow gold, not rose gold.

The DJII does come in this same configuration, but I don't believe it offers rose gold.

The DJ36 is classic, 100% Rolex DNA. I'm not a fan of the bloated DJ2.

Welcome Ryan, unless you have a really big wrist size, 36mm should be fine.

You know, this seems to be the refrain when visiting AD's...the 36mm watches are too small and are being purchased by old men and young women only. When one looks at the pricing of the line up, the 36mm's remain, in stainless at least $1500 less (list) than many of other watches (DJ II, Sub, Milgauss, GMT, etc. etc.).

Methinks this anti-36mm stuff is all a ruse by the AD's to sell men more expensive watches. Bet they will praise a DD platinum choice in 36mm, however!

Purchase the size that looks best to you, on your wrist!

I have a 7.5 inch wristband I think 36 mm is fine. As noted above, the key is what you think looks good on your wrist.

I know this is not a popular statement but I think the oversized watch craze will be coming to an end soon and these timepieces will join bell bottoms, leisure suits, shoulder pads and cargo pants in fashion heaven.

Welcome to the Forum Ryan.

36mm is a nice change from the bigger sports models and Panerai's.

Lightweight and comfortable.

My wrists are about 7.6".

I have an 36mm Explorer and a 36mm DJ.

I find them to be a good size and comfortable, too.

I have a 40mm Sub, that I like a lot, too.

Of course, I'm an old man, so I guess that might be why I feel okay about myself wearing smaller watches than many others these days, but whatever the reason, there's nothing written in stone that says that a watch needs to take up all the real estate on your wrist.

It's okay for a little flesh to be visible.

"Bloated" is an apt description for the DJII. The 36mm is a classic.

Realizing you like a large case - and RG - then the closest a Rolex would get to the Santos' size is the YM-II in SS/RG @ 44mm.

X2. The DJII is awesome but the 36mm is classy and simple perfection. The "fad" of huge watches will probably come and go but the DJ is a proven classic.

7,5" wrist as well here, the TT Datejust is the only Rolex I own and I think it fits my wrist (size wise at least) very well! It is a classic size indeed.

Now if I was you I'd patiently wait until Sam Fremstar finds this thread, then you'll be able to admire your grail TT rose gold DJ!

You have to buy what makes you happy, I agree with most post the 36mm Datejust is a classic and I am very happy with mine, not sure if the interest in big faces will decrease but a 36 is hardly small in any case. For me a 40mm Sub is as big as most people need. If you have a big wrist or like big watches then by all means go big. This gives me the chance to shamelessly show not just my beloved Datejust but also my pick up of the day an EVEN smaller 35mm faced Piaget. Something different, and a brand I always aspired to but a very understated version thereof.

By the way with the early comment about old men and women buy 36mm. Help me confirm at 41 am I an old man, a young man or something in between. I am quite confident I am not a woman!!!!!

Thank you everyone for your feedback I'm feeling as I already own a santos 100 (oversized) a classic date just will be a great 2nd choice.

What do you feel towards a steel and rose gold oyster edition with ivory dial?

Ahhh yes! Thanks Carl! Ryan (OP) the 36mm is a classic and timeless size and will go with anything. I have 7' wrist and here are two TT Rose Datejust in my collection. The one that you are looking at is The rose may not be for everyone, however, is fun to wear/add color to anyone's collection! Good luck on your decision!

Welcome to TRF Ryan!

36mm is the classic Datejust size and IMHO is very suitable for the majority of people.

Best thing is to try some models on to make your mind up.

Here's my 7" wrist sporting a 36mm DJ!
