Do any of you allow friends or colleagues to handle your Rolex?

I'd have no problem showing someone I know well and trust a watch. If I actually ran into someone who was wearing a fine watch or clearly knew about watches, I probably would let them handle it. Otherwise I would think it intrusive for a total stranger to ask to try on my watch any more than I would want them to try on my shoes or take my car around the block for a spin.

Yeah sure without a second thought. Let my brother in law borrow my dssd for a couple days as he wanted to get a feel for the weight. Ended up buying one.

Depends on the person, i don't like when people I don't know well pick up my watch without asking to see it first, specially when i just have it on the table and it's not part of the conversation.

On every other scenario, i do like very much to talk watches with people, when i know they like watches i take it out before they even ask to see it, more than often they also do the same and it ends up being great fun to see and talk about what others are wearing.

I've always complimented people's watches, i do it almost everytime, even with strangers, made a few very good friends from it, that's what it's all about.

The one thing i hate is people who ask the price, it's absolutely ridiculous, if we are friends who know and love watches and you ask me the price i'll surely tell you, but when that's the first thing that comes out of your mouth (and it happens quite frequently) i don't wanna talk about it anymore.

Also, don't like when people pick up my watch and wind/set the time/unscrew the crown without my permission, don't have any problems with people turning the bezel, or even running the chrono if they ask me, but i find it very inappropriate unless i've authorized them to do it. watches are very personal for me and even winding them is something special that i like to do myself.

So yes, 90% of cases i'll start the conversation and proudly talk about it if they ask, but asking "is it a real watch?", "how much did you pay?" and setting the time put me off.

You know, my father is the same way. When I comment on something he just acquired, he takes it right off and hands it to me. "I was just commenting dad! Put it back on."

I have a few friends into watches, and some of those are considering buying something higher end. In those cases, I took my watch off and let them inspect it. Most people don't want to put it on, they just want to look at it closer, with their own hands, and see what the commotion is about. I also only take my watch off over a table or when I'm sitting down on the couch, never when standing or walking.

Not a big fan of the "Hey, how much?" or "That's real, right?". It's just off-putting. I don't ask if their branded clothing is real, why would it be ok to ask if something I own is real? Seems logical for us, but people in general just don't think logically for the most part. Commenting before thinking is the way it usually goes. Ditto for touching the watch before I've physically offered it over, messing with the crown, pushers, etc. Let's be respectful of other people's property. I'm sure it'd be equally as off-putting if I started picking up people's keys or phones.

Not to a random stranger on the street or who happens to be sitting at a bar next to me...

But if anyone that I have some type of work/friendship with notices my watch and makes a comment or asks about it, I myself will gladly take it off and pass it to them to hold/inspect/try on, as we continue to chat about it.

Someone I work with is really into watches and is itching to get a BLNR and is on a couple of lists, I did not have a problem with him trying mine for size. He didn't ask though I offered.

I will not handle my valuables to no one. That includes my Rolex, wedding ring, car, etc.. I already had bad experiences about it and I will prevent this from happening again.

Yes (for people I know)...it's just a watch.

My 3yr old likes to shake my watch side to side to wind it up...and he love snagging my batman to take a look to see if the GMT hand is in the black of blue...black means its time to sleep:)

I have never been asked by anyone to inspect a watch I was wearing more closely or to try it on. If it happened, there are family, friends and some co-workers that I would allow to look at it and try it on. Anyone else, heck no.

Absolutely not, nobody not even family......if they drop it what then....they cost way too much to fix or replace. If I hand it over to someone it's still my responsibility if they drop it as I gave them permission to handle it or wear it.......daft if you do hand it over, complete insanity!

Also, if something costs so much that you can't afford to take the hit, you can't really afford it.
