Yachtmaster Question

I am considering adding a SS and Platinum Yachtmaster to my collection. I want to get the platinum colored dial. I know the case, crown, bracelet are SS and the bezel is Plat. However, I have read on several occasions where they claim the dial itself is plat. I know its plat colored but I didnt think the dial was actually plat. Can anyone clarify this for me? Thanks in advance

My wife has a midsize SS Plat YM and it’s stunning.

Hers is circa 2007 and it’s got a beautiful shimmering platinum dial....and as far as I always knew, it is platinum.

I could be wrong however.

The dial on the Plat/SS Yachtmaster is .950 Platinum.

Is the dial 950 platinum or is the bezel? Thought it was the bezel, but never looked carefully at that model YM.

Yes it is platinum, but that dial is no longer made. Now the nearest colour is rhodium (which is just the name of the colour, the dial isn't actually made of rhodium). So if you want the platinum you have to buy used or if you manage to find NOS.

Both. It is actually pretty unique in the Rolex range, I think the only watch with a platinum dial. Even the platinum watches like DD and Daytona have the standard brass dial.

So, is the entire bezel platinum on the YM, or just the insert?

I have the platinum dial Yachtmaster and find it the most versatile and unique of all the "sports" models. It will dress up or down. I love the new blue dial model as well but it doesn't dress up as well IMHO.

I agree, I am really surprised to find that this is not a very popular model on this forum. I think it is stunning and is somehow both a sport and a dress model all at the same time.

I have to wear suits to work most days and I find the Yachtmaster to be a go-to watch for me. The watch has a slimmer, lower profile than other Rolex models and really looks great as a dress watch.

It is indeed. I couldn't resist taking mine out just now and taking a photo as well.

I trawled EBay and amazon when looking for my BLNR (my SS/PL yachtmaster is 17 years old) and ended up buying from an AD here in San Francisco (the incomperable Shreve & Co.).

My advice, since the PL version of the dial is no longer made, trust *only* the trusted sellers here. IMO, there is just too much risk from eBay and Amazon.

Dial is solid platinum, just like the entire bezel (not just the insert).
