Dent in RG case

So... long story short, I lend my RG44 to a friend who wanted to see it. And he f**king dropped it. But as life goes, suck it up and move on. Wanted to see if anyone here has experience with dents on PM case, and if AP can refinish it by adding material? It's a pain in the ass to look at, but I don't want too much material being removed. See if you gents on this forum can advise if this can be fixed. Any input is appreciated.

I'd give the watch to LA Watchwerks for a laserwelding.

Doesn't look too bad, looks fixable with laser welding. Good luck! RG is more difficult to fix than WG or SS.

FYI, I never give watches to neither friend nor family to try on, 99.8% of the population have no understanding of watches and how much they're worth.

Ouch! Any more pics? If it's just a ding, using lazer filling can still fix the case, but from the pic provided, looks like a whole chunk has drop off. A case change on a RG44 will be prohibitively expensive so maybe you might have to live with..

OMG. Whats wrong with people? Either you tell them please do not drop it, the cost is $$$$$$ and look like a dick, or you take your chances and don't say anything and it hits the ground, your problem. Maybe its better to be a dick and warn them politely as they may take more care of not dropping it.
Sorry OP, but that looks like a laser weld repair, might work. If not, like Ben said, replacing a case is not worth it.

Thank you for posting and reaffirming my belief in never lending watches to friends

Seriously though, I hope you get it sorted/repaired ... I don’t think it would be wrong to let him/her know the cost involved either. I have a feeling they must have an idea if they asked to borrow it and hope they would offer to pay for repair.

Sorry to see, that really bites. Hope you can find resolution.

I let my Friend have a look at my 15400 when we were quite a few drinks deep into a session. He then jokingly puts it into his pocket full of shrapnel. I was not pleased to see new scratches on it...

No more sharing with friends. They can go to a boutique for a closer inspection...

Damn ... I would be seriously upset and expect the friend to cover some of the cost.

The crown / pusher guard is not part of the case so I assume it is replaceable at considerable less cost than a new case. From the picture, case damage does not look too terrible so AP can probably work their magic.

Goes without saying, nobody other than APSC should touch it.

Thanks for your input guys. I’m sending it in to APSC tomorrow with my fingers crossed. Also... advice taken. I’m never taking my watches off my wrist for any non-wis EVER again. I just got this no more than 4 months ago... too little ownership for this amount of depreciation. Let this post be a preemptive warning to anyone out there before you lend non-wis people your watches.

Cool. Keep us posted. Very interested in seeing the whole story through and the end result. I have the very same watch and a dent like that has been my nightmare scenario. Sorry it happened to you but I am sure it'll end up like new.

Will keep updating on this thread about the progress.. @ Serg i think its a nightmare for any watch lover. I specifically chose the 44 over the 42 for its ceramic bezel... but alas god chose to punish me by specifically hitting the pm area

I have the same too Bryan and that looks rough, hope you get it sorted. I try not to let others look at my watch and if they do I'll try and find somewhere to sit down and with a table so the fall won't be too great.

Hey ... at least none of those "leave it .. it tells a story / adds character" nonsense posts. Man I find those irritating.

Oh man - that is really frustrating! I'm sorry this happened to you...hopefully your friend at least offered to cover the cost of the repair as it would be unfair for you to incur that expense as a result of his carelessness.

That said, one strategy they I employ when people ask to see my watches (which isn't that often) is to ensure that we're either seated or standing at a table so that there is no risk of it hitting the floor. I'll also ask them to please be careful as the watches are very expensive - which may seem pretentious but I try to convey it in a way that is earnest and sincere and folks have always understood. Safest bet is to simply let them look at it while it's on your wrist!

Best of luck to you in getting it sorted!

I have one friend that always ask to see my new watches. I flat out tell him if he scratches it he is going to owe me a few grand lol

We are very close so it doesn’t come off as rude as it sounds.

Always a tricky thing depending how close you are, but if I dropped/ damaged something of someone else’s I would be offering to make amends.

Hope you can get it fixed up.

Any risk of movement damage too from the height of the fall ?

Oh man.

There was a whole thread on this in the Rolex sub-forum maybe like 6 month ago. Pages and pages of discussions on this exact topic - friend dropped watch, dinged the case, what next/who pays?!?!

OP - best of luck on getting this repaired. I hope it all works out for you.

Hit up LA Watchworks and get it lasered.
Double check if they can match the RG in color.

The only story it tells is that in the beginning of the story you had a perfect AP, in the middle of the story you had maybe one or two hairline scratches that only you could see and now at the end of the story you’ve got a f*cked up watch.

Dent in RG case

Do you have VPP insurance coverage for accidental damage?
Even with that, either refuse to take watch off wrist or only do so where any slip would result in no damage.

isnt the rose gold pusher a separate piece from the case?

WIS or non-WIS makes no difference, it can still get damaged. I don’t understand why anyone would need to borrow someone else’s watch

Update guys. Watch sent in to AP, waiting for them to get back. All the boutique staff who have looked at it so far don’t seem too positive that it’ll be a simple fix. Just praying it doesn’t end up being too ridiculous in terms of price.

And for those who want to know, I literally lent it to my friend and he dropped it in that split second. Nothing I could’ve seen coming.its still somehow my own fault though.
