Seen this:

Would be the first time I'm purchasing pre owned and would appreciate any help before I make a 4 hour drive to actually go view it.

Thanks!!

It looks pretty good for the price IMHO. Nice sharp lugs, B&Ps. Crown on the bracelet could be more defined but hard to tell, might be the picture. I almost pulled the trigger on a 16700 last summer for £6000 and that was box only and not as good as that one. But I’ll defer to more knowledgeable folk on here...

Picture looks good but overpriced for a almost 20 year old watch.

I’d suggest with both box and papers it’s ok. This is where most of the non box and paper watches sell for with the bigger greys.

Watch looks nice btw.

I simply mean the crown on the clasp looks to have been polished quite a bit. But photos can be deceptive as the rest of it looks fine. The crown is stamped through the metal so each time it gets a polish, those nice coronet lines lose definition. As for price, seems market to me in the current climate, and even reasonable by some I’ve seen, whether or not the watch is 20 years old makes no difference IMO.

^ A bracelet that has been polished several times can begin to loose definition and look smoother around the coronet on the clasp. As said above it is hard to tell from the photo's if it is worn down a bit or just the way it looks in the photo.

Still looks like a nice example. It would be worth asking the dealer for the Serial number, they will be unlikely to give you the full details but should give the letter (A or P) and first few digits. Hopefully the green hangtag will have the same serial number as well of course as the guarantee papers, when you check it out in person.

Have been looking to buy this watch for a month intensively. Want the specific late nineties-2000 model. €10k is the price now for a full set.

I agree – ask the seller for serial number and clasp code. And post some pictures when-if you buy.

Am I right in saying the clasp code should be 78790 (Oysterlock)? And this would be located on the inside of the claps right?

Handsome watch. With the conversion to USD, that's basically what a new model will cost including sales tax from the Rolex AD. Why wouldn't you want to just get a new one for that price?

Sorry OP that you weren't able to score this particular one

The 16710 is a remarkable reference, don't get discouraged. Good luck on your continued hunt!

Not surprised it sold quickly.
As said previously, rare to see them under £7k with papers in the UK these days.

Some here (even the most senior members) think anything beyond MSRP, regardless of the original sale date or present day market value, is over priced and over hyped. A lot of "real world" vs "fake world" nonsense.

I was reluctant to buy my 16710 BLRO - Z serial Complete set at $7400 two years ago. Especially after passing up opportunities for years prior at $4800, $5500, $6500, etc. Finally decided, I don't think they're getting any cheaper. Today DSW is selling one almost identical to mine today for $14k+.

I'm not saying the value will stay at $14k, or even drop a bit depending on the economy.

However, in this particular 16710 market IMO you need to; First, buy what you love, Second, try to buy from a great seller, Third, do your best to get the good deal. If you follow this, the enjoyment of the watch will be paramount, and your money will be relatively safe. Just my opinion.

Obviously (sorry to hear) you missed the first one. If you find another that checks all the boxes I'd move quick on it.

Sorry to hear it got sold...keep looking! When you find another I might refrain from posting the link here since TRF has a lot of traffic. Post a screenshot of watch only etc instead.

As already stated that was priced cheaply for box and papers. You can get loose ones for that not surprised it sold. Best of luck, the problem is now that people are buying the older 5 digits, it’s harder to get a decent set as there are less around that are complete sets.

No. It was just what Padi said. Quite humorous I thought. Good luck with your search. It's an awesome watch.
