5167R - 30-day check-in
so it's been 30 days since i've taken ownership. the 67 was not even a choice i considered. even as far back as when i was deciding in the 11 vs 12, and was fortunate enough to land on the 12, i always saw the aquanaut as an odd piece.
in addition, i recently let go of a few strap-original (ie, originally comes in strap, vs coming on bracelet that u can swap to strap) pieces, as i had concluded that bracelet models are really my preference. having full metal is really my 'home base'...and the potential of swapping to strap gave me more flexibility. case in point, my speedy pro and seamaster great white. as i've (annoyingly, i'm sure) commented on various threads here of pining for the 5711R, i'm just not able to get one in hand. but i was still very much desiring a rose gold patek. and for whatever reason, i have no logical reason why, the 64R piqued my interest. maybe cuz, for a moment, there had a been a flurry of other members' incomings on this model, and a lot of conversation thru threads. i guess it's true...the more it's in conversation, the more influenced interest there is...which, i'm wondering, are WE actually setting the trend/demand?? hmm.... but the 64, whilst a beautifully laid out and symmetrical dial, the world time function was not an overt sell to me. great movement, i'm sure...and i do travel frequently for work...but i very rarely found myself needing the timezone function on my watch. as many have said before, are watches even used to check time anymore?? but i kept staring at and listening to the conversations about the 64 thru all of YOU! and over time, the appeal of the aquanaut grew...to the point that what i had originally thought of it being such an "odd" model now felt more like "of course it's right!" i turned from "no way, not happening" to "hmm, this could be interesting" to "this MUST happen!". once i made that conclusion the 67 was an almost no brainer. the 3-hand date function was the simplicity that appeals to me, and the rose gold was the right hint of class that i really love. and the fact that it was on a rubber strap (which i was actually concerned about...which i'll get to here in a bit), was the perfect dichotomy of this model. the casual/sport lasse faire personality that a rubber strap evokes connected to the elegance, art, precision and worldliness that the meticulous hand-polished-loved case and movement conveys - these, to me, are diametrically opposed yet somehow are perfectly seamless in this one piece. and that brought out of me an immense sense of curiosity and continual awe of "htf could they do that?!" back to the rubber strap. in photos the deployant appears a bit chunky. my concern was that the strap may be a bit stiff and that the chunky deployant would either dig in or crowd the wrist when closed. for example, it's much thicker than those found on the 11 and 12. couldn't be further from the truth. it's one of the most comfortable pieces, i adore it on the wrist. i tend to wear my watches high on the wrist...which means it's a firmer feel...yet no digging of the deployant. and when it dangles closer the wrist, it doesn't feel top heavy or wobbles around due to the heavier weight of the PM case. it is just SO EASY to wear. i just put it on and go. it's pure KISS principle played out in the best way possible...meeting casual and class. i'm certainly mindful of banging into walkways here and there...as that has instinctively become my physical nature thru the years i've owned such pieces. but, unlike let's say my AP 15450BA, i almost never think about "babying" this piece. only now and then when i look down at my wrist do i take a moment to have my breath taken away...and then freak out about not banging into anything! it's been 30 days since taking ownership. i've worn this piece for almost that entire time. i've NEVER done that with my past new pieces, not even close. at one point i wore it for 2 weeks straight! and i didn't force myself to wear it...i feel like it "just" happened...like i said my curiosity and continual awe just seemed to naturally draw me towards it. so, on this 30th day, happy Friday. |

I am too a bracelet fan, and didn't care for the Aquanaut, but the 5167r is the exception. Congrats on this stunning piece!

Incredible write up, I share the same sentiment. My 5167a hasn't left my wrist since I decided to wear it, it's a much different experience than my 15202. Cheers and Happy Birthday!

Congrats ! Nice description of the 5167... I share the same sentiments about the 67a although I do wish the deployant was a bit less “chunky”.

That looks great, but don't give up on the 5711/1r, believe we have an incoming shortly to keep you hopeful.
