Wow when I think at what prices I got mine, at the new prices I would be out of the game for sure, well not retail, I could still cope with that, but grey? No way...

December, 2007. My AD calls, with a new 5711 (first 5711 series, 315 calibre). I say no, then think about it a bit, and say, sure. Price: USD $18,800 -- inflation adjusted to today, this would be $22,474. At the time, I thought it was, well, a lot, but justified given the fit and finish. It's a really nice watch. But I personally would be looking elsewhere at $40K+.

This is absolute madness. You have now reached peak insanity IMHO. For 45-50k, there are literally tons of watches that can be had as opposed to this inflated farce. Precious metal APs, Pateks, potentially two ALS, FPJ, Laurent Ferrier, etc etc. Anyone paying these prices deserve the resale hit that is coming to them. Just pure insanity.

Do we have any understanding of what level dealers are willing to pay for (i) brand new pieces and (ii) used pieces? I do not know what the spread is, but I can imagine many WIS would be tempted to take USD 40,000 - 42,000, which is perhaps the reasonable level available? This would certainly open up a world of interesting possible alternatives, as noted above.

Good grief, you could get a 5170G for less than that. A few thousand more a gently used ALS PT Datograph Up/Down or 5905P.

I don't as I have not really seriously considered this. But the other option is to just list it directly and split the baby between wholesale and retail.

Anyone looking to spend $50K would do well to consider the amazing 5990. The rest of this madness smells like tulips...

Madness has now taken the 5711 above the 5712, £42K and £39K... these are more like options than shares now...

Waiting for the next recession. Should be within a year or two. Trade wars are easy to win. I think the last people to say that were Smoot and Hawley.

5990 is an excellent alternative to the 5711.

Yup, unreal. My AD told me not to sell my 5711 cause it will probably reach 50K. He was joking at the time but I guess he was right.

Yeah, from an intrinsic value standpoint 30K is ridiculous for this watch. But they were 26,300 in the USA for a long time before the 7 percent price drop. So if you figure that, the jump from 26K to 29K is no so bad given the years involved. The 7 percent price cut in the US really shook up the PP price market.
PP simply took the drop away and added another 10 percent for good measure.

The question is how high will they go? I do not see PP increasing production or deliveries ever so the market could easily go much higher from here for BNIB. Sadly, hardly any retail buyers will keep them given the quick profit to be made.

I do think many retail buyers will keep them! They're often bought by people or for people who want one more than they want to make a few quid!
And that's evidenced by the amount of grey ones that get purchased, at high prices - they're wanted that much

And they're only getting harder to come by

Both great pieces but one is simply sleeker and that is one of the reasons it is so desirable. On the wrist the 5711 is very very hard to beat.

It’s not a few quid - it’s real money

Completely agree and that’s the reason why I passed up the 5990 and got the 5712.

only if you like both. They wear very different. I prefer thicker watches so it makes sense for me. My 5712, the only thing that is a con in my book is the thinness but thats not what everyone thinks, clearly.

plus one is a dressy sports watch and the other is more sporty.

From Patek Philippe 2012 Retail Pricelist thread..

Hey guys, is it me or the msrp can fluctuate up and down? Looking at the first page of the thread, the 2012 msrp

5711/1A Nautilus (5711/1A / SS) $26700.00
5712/1A Nautilus (SS / Black-Blue Dial / SS Bracelet) $36000.00

And comparing it to 2016 price list on page 3

5711/1A Nautilus (5711/1A / SS) $24836.00
5712/1A Nautilus (SS / Black-Blue Dial / SS Bracelet) $33227.00

Did anyone notice that? So maybe the 20% price increase is only temporary to help control the wait list and grey market prices..
