Help me choose my next watch! AP Vs. Panerai
So i'm looking into getting my next watch, and have been going back and forth between the Pam 187 and the AP diver. I love both watches but as I like to not have similar watches in my collection, I want to only have one of these...
Also open to any other suggestions in the similar price range, but not looking into a sub (have a GMT and to me too similar)

I really like Panerai right now although I previously bought one (not a submersible) and within 2 weeks the novelty had worn off and I sold it. This was about a year before I bought my first AP and I have to say AP is in a different league. I keep considering a Panerai but each time I try one on I’m not 100% about it. I haven’t checked but I’d say AP is likely to have far better resale too.

I like the look of the AP Diver slightly more. Both are great watches. There was a time that I was drooling for a pan but somehow finally decided my comfort zone is about 40mm. Even my Breitling super ocean steelfish at 44mm felt heavy and bulky but it gets wrist time here and there.

AP diver? Only exist in name. Not really known as a legit tool watch or meant for adventures beyond high end bars and malls. If you wanna diver--Rolex or Omega are the most solid choices.

Both great watches, but I would personally lean toward the AP diver if I had to chose just one.

I was actually looking at this choice a few years ago as that PAM was my fave one, but I went with the AP, which is a different level really.

The Panerai is a beast and at 47 mm has a lot of wrist presence. Make sure you get a good deal and the watch is complete with box and papers. If the watch has not been serviced within the last few years you need to deduct the cost of a service as it will be needing it within a reasonable time frame.

I had 3 Pams and 2 AP, only kept the AP ceramic diver, really doesn't compare, AP is clearly in a different league

These watches aren’t even in the same league. The AP is miles better

Dont really care about "leagues" I buy watches because I like them not to be an owner of a particular brand... They have similar look and feel, both oversized, "divers", and rugged looked for a summer watch...

Yes sir! I mentioned earlier my stepdad has the AP black dial, i'm looking into the white dial. Haven't been able to try on the 187 but have tried on other pam subs that are the same size and i like the heft of them... I'm swaying more to the ap only because its easier to get a complete set...

I like Panerai as much as the next guy. But in this case, I would go with AP. One thing though, I would get the latest version with ceramic crown. The rubber crown is a slight turn off for me.

Poll results are pretty compelling, given this is a neutral forum.

I’m not afraid to go against the grain
Specifically the 187 isn’t exactly the diver model I’d go for, but there are plenty of others that I like more than the AP The Luminor submersible 1305 is gorgeous IMO. |
