Would you tell someone your watch is not real?

I was at an auto dealer last night and I noticed the sales associate was wearing a Rolex Daytona. He seemed surprised when I made a comment about his timepiece and he quickly dismissed it as being fake and said that someone came by the dealership and was peddling them and then he changed the subject.

Question:

Have you or would you ever tell someone that your authentic Rolex is not real?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I apologize about this thread, evidently my post was not very clear.

I was at an automobile dealership not an authorized Rolex dealer. The point of this thread was to find out if someone asked you questions about your REAL Rolex would you tell them it was not REAL

Sorry for any confusion thanks

Sean

I believe I won't buy a fake watch. If I can't buy a Rolex because the value too high for me, better go for Omega. And if Omega too high, better go for Seiko. And so on... Of course nobody tell their watch is fake!!! Why they wear fake watch? Because they think they can manipulate everyone else about their watch.

I would tell someone my authentic Rolex was fake if the situation warranted it. Like if I was trying to get a good deal on a car! Or if the person asking seemed to be of questionable nature and/or I would be worried about it getting stolen.

Or if it was my mother asking.

Just a larger issue here - should a sales associate at an authorized dealer be wearing a counterfeit Rolex?

It makes sense if your boss is asking and Rolex watch doesn't seem to match your salary.

I usually tell my coworkers that watch is a gift.

The answer about great age of watch is goooood

I had the same thing happen.....

I was talking with a big time real estate broker and he had what looked like a nice watch. I said to him " hey im kinda a watch nut, what are you wearing?" He looked liike a deer in the headlights and his first comment was "oh its fake". I was wearing at the time my TAG and showed him. I think he felt like a moron.

I think anyone who wears a fake watch is affraid of people who know watches.

Auto dealer - not AD in the TRF sense..... that's an entirely different animal!

Thanks Lisa. I edited my initial post to hopefully clarify that.

By the way, why would you tell your mom your watch was not real?

Because she is a little too impressed by material things and "image" and would make a big issue over it. You can bet if she knew I had not one, but two Rolexes, every relative would be hearing about it. And that's not why I have the watches. I don't have the desire to cultivate envy - I only care that my watches make me smile.

I agree Lisa. I tell some of my clients and colleagues who ask that it was a gift (which it partially was!). Years ago, when my buddy and I were in Mexico, some local asked my buddy if his 16610 was a Rolex. Realizing this guy was likely shady, my buddy said, "no, it's a Fauxlex," and showed it off like he was proud of the fake. The guy seemed disappointed and walked away. I plan on using the same tactic if confronted in that fashion.

Yup. That's one benefit of the fakes market - it can give us owners of the real thing a certain measure of protection.

I guess the question of a fake Rolex would never arise with me.

On the other hand, if it were a fake RADO, I'd tell the whole world about it!!

this thread reminds me of my ring.
Eight years ago, one of my client said: dang, that rock is too big on your hand, and she continued is your diamond real?
I told her it is not. That was a gift from my sis, and she paid $75 for it.
Then she said: can you get me one or sell this to me and tell your sister buy another for you? I will pay you $100....
I smiled friendly at her, no I can't because it is a gift

The correct subject matter is a car salesman was wearing a fake and when questioned about the watch in question his reply was it was/is Fake

When I had my 14060, my chiropractor asked me if it was real. I said yep its real.

Somehow certain people seem to think that Rolex price is in hundreds of thousands and unattainable.

I do not show off my watch at all, but if someone asked me what is that you are wearing, I would simply say its a Rolex Submariner. Just a matter of fact...

She's probably still wondering how a $75 fake could look so brilliant.

Well, thanks there, Earl. But when I posted, the unedited post said "AD" NOT "Auto Dealer". It was edited later. A simple read of all the posts prior to yours would have revealed that.

Thanks, anyhow.....

Thanks for the responses.

I do not know if the car salesman was wearing a replica Rolex Daytona. I just thought it was interesting how he blew it off as a fake and quickly changed the subject. It seemed to me that he did not want me to know that he was wearing a real Rolex Daytona.

If he had told me his Rolex Daytona was real, I would have shown him my GMT II C (I was wearing a long sleeve shirt at the time).

I would think that a person who wears a replica would actually more inclined to pass it off as real...

It depends on who's asking. If some shady character asked me if my watch was authentic I would probably lie and pass it of as a replica. Otherwise, I would probably show it off...

When I tell them I am not quite sure, they start judging the watch as if they are all Rolex watchmakers! 90 percent would say it is a fake! FUNNY and then I show them the papers and service done on the watch and they all fold!

I would NOT tell someone that I think they are wearing a fake watch. However, if it was indeed a fake, that would alter my impression of the person unequivocally.

This question is irrelevant to most people here because most of us would never even own a fake, nevermind strut around wearing one.

Agreed. Someone who wears a fake watch is basically declaring how shallow and pretentious he/she is.
