16710 offered - condition comments please

Hi all,

Late stage search for a 16710. What do you think of this piece? Just condition, I know i might be able to get one cheaper but that is not the question.

https://ocwatchguy.com/products/1837

The seller, Patrick, has been roundly praised on the forum so I am happy with the seller.

I am in Tokyo for a week in February. Do you think i can find them there too?

Well it seems you trust Patrick. Patrick says it's mint. There you have it.

Looks very clean from the photos. Although not a dealbreaker by any means - Pepsi was not it’s original insert. This piece was born with a black bezel denoted by the N (noir) after the 16710 in the certificate style line.

You definitely will find some in Tokyo - I was there a few months back, selection was good in the shops - but the prices were no better, and probably more expensive than you will find around here...and on top of that the dollar was stronger vs yen back then as well.

For what it is worth - I would feel better from a piece of mind standpoint making a vintage purchase from a trusted seller vs. an overseas buy...should there be the need for issue resolution down the line.

Very crisp watch with a great case and dial (dial is as expected). Patrick is first class you're right. Hunt down a black insert and you'll have a complete set if you want it "correct."

Get out of it Chadridv! You live in America its easy for you.

I just happen to be going from LA to Laguna next Saturday and so have one opportunity for a face to face. I live in Saigon in Vietnam where there are no trusted sellers.

I will buy this. MINE :)

Darn it! I hate that in 2015 when I was shopping for my first Rolex these were only around 6k.

I should have pulled the trigger on one back then. A huge congrats to you sir. Source a black and a coke bezel and complete the set.

OP, find out the service history. The watch is 13.5 years old. I just received my 16710 back from Dallas RSC, and a full service not including any replacement parts costs $700 before tax. If no service history, add that into the cost of ownership.

Also, as another member stated it was born a "black" 16710. I've seen other references born a "Pepsi" fetch a premium. If you want new sealed inserts I can get you any color. This way you can fully appreciate the versatility of this fantastic reference!

Patrick has a reliable service relationship there in CA. I’m sure you could negotiate a service as part of the sale, if desired.

I have done a few deals with Patrick. Very solid guy, knows his stuff and very aware of credibility on TRF. Price is on the high side but it is a nice piece.

Thanks. I have a good relationship with the service centre in Saigon such that it won't cost that much. Nice looking watch.

Aren’t sales tax in Tokyo, like, 10%?

(By the way, I’ve dealt with Patrick several times and he has been top-notch; I would highly recommend him.)

Yeah sales tax is 8% in Tokyo, but if you show your passport they let you off that, so back to 0.

You can, but they appear to be more expensive than in the US. At least on the website of HouseKihiroba, Jackroad and Kame Kichi. Plus the wife would be mighty pissed at me if we went on her dream holiday in Tokyo and spent 4 days trolling through watch shops in aging shopping malls!

Purchased through the OCRolexGuy website. Ouch tax and merchant fees hurt but I feel safer. This is the most I have ever paid for anything. It is unlikely I will ever sell it, and $10k / 40 years / 365 days a year = 68 cents a day to know what time it is. Bargain!

I bought it. All praises to OCRolex & Patrick. As described and a pleasure to deal with. California tax hurt a little though!

Very happy with my watch and here it is. I get back to HCMC soon and will take it to the very friendly Swiss chap at the RSC to confirm it's not stolen and see if he thinks it needs a service or new seals.
