Hi guys: I'm moving to Thailand around May 10, 2010, and will not be here for the York GTG. I'll be available to bring over your Thai sweeties though after that time......:)
This does not mean I can't help coordinate events with NAWCC and the Nat'l Watch and Clock Museum. Also, good news is that Blaine Mattison has 18 free tickets and that saves each person about $40.00 admission for 2 or 3 days of the show.
Well, nighty night. And sorry, but the time has come to move on down the line.
I will get you a list of hotels near the West York venue and contact the Nat'l Watch and Clock people.

Love ya,
Dan

Dan, good news for you! All the best for that big move in your life!
You will read how much we enjoyed this GTG and you will be sorry that you can not be here for it!
Only 108 days....

Yes. How ironic. Think of it: 35 yrs. in York. Member of this forum for what 3 or 4 years, and now the NAWCC National comes to York, and I'll be gone? What the f---....

Oh well, that's life. You guys should take up Blaine Mattison on his offer of free passes that saves about $40.00 admission price per person. I will check with the National Watch and Clock Museum Exec. Director to arrange a special tour of the place, and get back to you all.

All my best, and I'll miss you guys and the show, that's for sure!

Dan, sorry that you will not be able to attend. However, congrats on the move ! I'm sure your life will be quite different in Thailand.
It was a pleasure to meet you, and I hope to someday meet up with you again
This is one of the only fourms I belong to where I actually met members in person from (and drive many miles to meet lol).
Fred and I (and I'm sure others) will take lots of pictures
Please do keep in touch Dan !
All the best on your move

Hi Dan.

I was looking forward to seeing you at the GTG but who knows maybe I will see you over in Thailand instead. As you know my significant other is from Thailand and she has always wanted to go back for a visit.

I wish you and yours all the best in your move and your new life.

OMG Dan, you're really going to do this! (You were talking about this move last year.) What an adventure! I hope you will still make it to the Philly GTG so you can hang out with us for a bit before you leave. Faith

only 15 passes left for the world wide traders show wed. thrus. 6/16-17/10
this show is a full blow wristwatch traders, dealers, buyers, sellers show.
if you ain't never been to a wwt show, this is it. and what makes really special
it is the lead-in show for the nawcc NATIONALS. that is about a 900+ table show.

Hi Guys,

I am on my way out but wanted to take a moment to respond to a PM I received today. Given Dan's impending departure, someone requested I coordinate the York GTG. In all fairness, I think someone else might be better suited to do this as I'm not really familiar with the resources in this area and it's been quite a while since I visited. Nonetheless, I am happy to help in other ways, be it contacting people, helping arrange rides, etc. I hope this gets off the ground, and if you guys let me know what you need, I'll do my best to assist. Faith

Bangkok Dan remains Dan the Yorker...Ripley's !!

Well....after LONG consideration and two weeks of working in Bangkok, and considering my daughter's welfare(my son is grown in med school and on his own(USAF 2nd Lt.) ), I've decided NOT to move after all. So, I guess I'll be at the NAWCC National in York, pestering you guys. More later.......... There is a very very long story behind all of this, but ya know what? It'll have to wait for that 3rd beer with my buddies from TRF!
all my best,
Dan Pell

Whatever makes you happiest is great news from my viewpoint, Dan. I asked Blaine if he had any passes left, and I think I'm going to venture across state on Wednesday. I have cousins in York and I want to stop at the family seat in Chambersburg en route, but otherwise hopefully we'll run into each other at the event.

OK guys, thanks for all the nice commments.

Questions:
1. Do you want a list of places to stay?
2. Blaine, anymore passes left?
3. I wrote again to Exec. Director of NAWCC to see if we can get a special tour of
the National Watch & Clock Museum in Columbia, about 30 minutes east(towards Lancaster, Pa. and on what day)
4. Where should we meet, and on what day, time?

Best,
Dan

p.s. I realize that we're a little behind on the curve, but I think we still have enough time to plan a GTG at the convention, have a lunch, and maybe walk around the convention for a little bit, and possibly on one of the day(s), do a tour of the National Watch and Clock Museum. This may prove to be too much, but I'm at least going to make inquiries.
Best,
Dan Pell

Well, maybe not 'happiest' but family comes first. That's what I've rediscovered, and money second.

I'm hoping Blaine will come back with some passes?
and see my other(preceeding note).

True dat !

Thursday would not be do-able for me, so I'm hoping Wednesday will be the day everybody selects to GTG

I received a reply from Steve Humphrey, Executive Director of the NAWCC, re: tour of the National Watch and Clock Museum. Please give me feedback on your wishes. The Museum is 40 minutes' drive from York. It's in Columbia, Pa. first exit across the Susquehanna River.

Best,
Dan Pell
Since there is a warning at the end of the email from Mr.Humphrey that its contents are restricted to the recipient(me), I will not reproduce the whole note(I'm certain he'd have no objection in any case), but rather, repeat the substance which follows:

With all that is going on with the national and our staff’s involvement. Friday would be the best day with Saturday also being a possibility. Thursday night is the exhibit opening for the Bond watch exhibit and on Friday everyone could see Ian Fleming’s Rolex Explorer model 1016 watch. This is the first time the watch has been seen outside of Great Britain. The tour could include the museum, library and school if on Friday and the museum and library on Saturday.

Dan, that sounds great !! I have to plan when/were we will be staying first when we go down to PA. I was planning on staying until probably Friday the latest. However, the Bond watch exhibit does sound VERY interesting.
