Happy 4:20 Day!

Have a Great Day/Evening!

Just saw a story about this on the NBC Nightly News.

I’ve been celebrating 4/20 for years and years.

Less as I get older. But I still think it’s great.

I didn't partake, smoking reefer is not that good for my running performance...
However I do enjoy it sometimes, a few times a year.

I had exactly one puff lol which is about a 3-4 times a year occasion for me. My tolerance is out the window compared to my high school days when I was doing my best snoop dog impression 7 days a week.

So I don’t smoke anything, but my daughter knows all about weed and such. She’s 8. But we literally have discussions around schedule 1 drug and legalization.

Here’s the funny thing...
She comes home from school.. says teachers keep saying stay away from drugs. But weed is still schedule 1 drug. And she goes... that makes no sense it’s legal in some places and not in others. She knows what weed smells like because u can smell it everywhere in the city.

Then I have to explain how it cbd oils are medicinal and that there hasn’t been much research to point to it being a gateway drug. And there are states that have legalized and that it will support tax revenue.

She’s 8 Good thing I don’t have to talk about birds and bees.

Interesting predicament modern parents find themselves in. A departure from my youth of “don’t do that it’s illegal”( then look the other way. )

Had a full 1 gram joint of good quality white widow a few weeks ago (just after my ultra marathon), after not having any cannabis for over 5 months.
I have never been this high before it is occasional for me, but when I do smoke I want to go to another universe.

Jeez guys, is it really that complicated? She's 8, not 18, so where she lives and differences in legal status here or there for adult use is irrelevant. Same for alcohol or buying tobacco where adults have a choice to purchase or possess without running afoul of the law.

That's not a "predicament" or anything new, it's merely adding weed to the long list of "things adults may be able to do but kids can't" in the eyes of the law. Nothing has or will change for 8-18 year olds with respect to pot. That's pretty easy to explain, no different than explaining why she can't drink the margarita you're having (Of course, none of this applies to those "parents" who get drunk and/or high with their kids).

As far as trying to explain why legal here and why not there (for adults) etc etc, that's a good opportunity to introduce the more important facts of life with respect to there being differences in what's legal or acceptable wherever you go. In 10 years when she's an adult the conversation is no different than alcohol being legal in most countries but not in others, or having a bag of weed is legal at home (or earns at most a small slap on the wrist) vs. some places where you'll do prison time or have your head chopped off. It's not a good idea to be armed with only a childlike naiveté about such things when heading out into the world.

Parenting is preparing your children well to enter and navigate the real, larger world while they're pursuing whatever is important to them, correct? Whether it's navigating across borders or depending what her chosen interest or profession as an adult is, something like pot may not be compatible with it legally or otherwise. For instance, just because pot may inevitably become legal for consumption for adults similar to alcohol, my profession isn't going to stop drug-testing for it so I have to continue to say "just say no" until such time I figure getting high is worth more than doing what I love. May as well arm kids with the ability to do or accept that for themselves so they won't have to learn as adults.
