You can't make this stuff up

So My son and I are in BH yesterday to visit the GS boutique (that's another thread altogether), and out in front of Cartier, there is this really small patch of ground cover. I think it's Mondo Grass or something. On his hands and knees and sweating up a storm is the gardener, groundskeeper, or whoever he is is preening this 3-4 square feet of grass. As this rough dude sits back on his heels for a moment, I notice his wrist.....DJ41.

He is probably an eccentric multi millionaire.
But why in this day and age should it be a surprise.
Many years ago, I used to drive trucks and over the years wore Rolex, Patek & FP Journe

Maybe he owned the place? Might be why he can afford a Rolex and a place in BH because he does a lot of things himself instead of paying someone else to. My father was a prime example of someone like this.

Yup...

You be surprised who the wealthy people are. When I was a teenager, I worked for a guy that was worth 50-100 mil.... he lived in a 2500 sft home and he drove a geo prism. Looked like an Uber scrub.

That was just his beater! I’m in retail and dress/look around the same age as the teens and 20-somethings I employ and have more than once been asked the dreaded “Is it real?” while serving customers. I just laugh it off now and it often leads to further watch related conversation which is always a good thing!

I'm gonna be honest, my first reaction was, "You're going the scratch the shit out of that thing."

I don’t even get this post? A Rolex is not a rare watch......and many people aren’t afraid to wear them. It’s not like he was wearing a Patek perpetual calendar. What’s the big deal? I’ve seen fisherman getting blood and guts all over full gold day dates. This forum is a tiny blip in the big picture. Most aren’t scared to wear their watches like a lot of people on here seem to post about..

Clearly the Rolex plan is working....

Let the Gardeners have Datejusts....

Subs are not for plebeians.

i would think same, but on the second thought, he could own the place, so i would probably compliment the watch.

I once met a gardener from California.

He said him and his wife started mowing grass at some of the nice neighborhoods.

They recommended him to other neighborhoods.

He hired his brother, and they had so much work they needed to hire more people.

Anyway, he said after about 2 years of this, he and his wife no longer mowed grass, only on the occasion that they had extra work to complete or someone called in sick. They managed a small company that they had created from the ground up.

If I remember correctly, he lived in a $600k home.

So yes, I would think a gardener could afford a Datejust, if that is what this thread is about.

If it isn’t about this, then I agree with the posts above: some people do wear their watches!

I am not short of money, but if you saw me on many occasions you would not guess I had a penny to my name.

I regularly work ‘on the tools’ and often get stuck in on the manual, physically demanding and sometimes unpleasant jobs.

Recently I was filling a skip on a hot day with one of my labourers and a young man walked past with his young son and I heard him say “let this be a lesson to you son – or you could end up with a job like that”

You can’t judge a book by it’s cover

I gardened all last summer in a daytona. Rolex are great in the garden. I like the Daytona for the flip lock on the bracelet. Nice knowing that it can take a beating n still be secure on my wrist. Photographs with plants rather nicely.
