Not seen the video clip yet, but a couple of thousand at most for a 1970s bezel and insert so he’s saying what: £87,500 extra for the papers? Who was the “expert?”

What model was the watch? 1970s non-date or a 1665?

Comex logo dial?

Some would not have come with their papers.

They dated it at 1975/76.....and valued missing bezel insert at £30K. Looked to be in honest original condition - owner was a lady who was gifted it from ex boy friend, who was a diver.

On what grounds? Looney-tunes.

It was a bit crazy. It was the insert that was missing not the bezel itself!

It was a no-date 660ft with Comex logo and HEV

"Expert" has read some pieces on the internet, thrown in some confusion regarding the bezel inserts from military submariners and then plucked some numbers from the air.

Quality television for our licence fee, BBC, well done :-(

You might be too late.

If I know JD right he's already been there.

The JD I'm thinking of? He may be distracted by the next turn in the Bikoff case, due 16th October : https://www.pacermonitor.com/case/15..._Dowling_et_al

I saw it, a lot of money for a ropey old watch, came to mind,

still, it said comex on it, and had lost its bezel

not for me, give me a regular vintage no date sub, with box and papers,

or a late ss pepsi.

I didn't see it, but I doubt whomever it was was a self-proclaimed COMEX "expert". It's an antiques roadshow, and these people don't know what the public are going to bring in, and they usually have a pretty good broad knowledge of their sphere of interest. She probably doesn't spend her life examining the minutiae of ROLEX watches. Hard to believe, I know...

To be fair to the appraiser he did know a little (if it was off the cuff). He asked her how she had the watch as they were only given to Comex employees. The lady said she was given it as a gift by her ex boyfriend in the late 80’s. hmmm, yeah sure he gave her a beat up, tired old Watch as a gift back in the 80’s. My money is on him leaving it behind when they split.

The appraiser asked if she could get in contact with him and get some provenance and it’d be over £100k. She said something along the lines of “but I wouldn’t get to keep the money”.
