Day date 36 white gold

Hi all,

I've wanted a day date for some time now and my dream would be the 40 in white gold BUT it's out of my budget!

I've found a engraved inner 6 year old for sale, white gold 36 for ok money.

My question is is the 36 big enough???

I really look forward to hearing from you guys on this before I pull the trigger tomorrow.

Thanks

It’s really different for everyone. Some will say it’s too small and some will say it’s perfect. You really need to try one on and see how it fits your wrist.

Well, go try one on before making the purchase, so you will find out if it wears like you wish to. I have a 7" wrist and i like the fit of a 36 mm DD/DJ more than the one of the Sub...

It is fine, it feels weird going from subc for example to day date and at first it feels tiny but trust me it looks fine on the wrist. It takes time getting used too again but 36mm is fine and I probably wouldn't go to the DD40

6.5 inch wrist and the 36 is perfect. Strangely, the Sub fits fine but a 40mm DD just doesn't work.

I think my wrist is 7inch
I'm going to go and try it before I buy it tomorrow!
I'm in the UK and the list price is over £25,000 for a white gold 36 !!!!
I'm looking at a 2011 for £15,000 with box and papers does this sound a good deal ?

I have a 7” wrist and wear 36mm DayDate and DateJust watches. I think they look good and I know they are comfortable. My GMT II is 40mm and it is OK but not as comfortable as the smaller watches. It only matters what you think so try a 36mm watch on and then decide.

Can anyone tell me if the 2010 / 2011 model is the same as the watch you buy in the shops today ?

The ones starting ‘11’ are the current models, 2010/11 should be fine

Well how big is your wrist? The 36 still has better proportions than the 40. The 40 reminds me of the DDII with the ungainly bezel proportion. But, if you have a very large wrist, it's for you then. Otherwise, 36 probably works better and is certainly still the time tested standard against which later versions are measured, but none have overtaken it for elegance, design and proportion imo.

I like the 36mm size myself too with a 6.375" smaller wrist. As much as I like my modern day date I'm on the lookout for a nice 1803 to add if possible as well.....understated elegance is key and I love that about smaller Rolex pieces.

I agree that the 36mm has the best balance and proportions. The 40 is really too big as a big part of the watch is the President Bracelet. Unless you have a big wrist all you see is the watch on the 40mm. Another big thing but only if your planning both as new buys, is the improvements in the movement and bracelet in the 40mm. If you can find a sweet used 36mm at a good price, that is the way to go.

I am not a fan of the 40 the bezel looks way too big IMO. I think the 36 is a classic and unless you have Andre The Giant wrists I think it will look fine, but that is personal opinion.

I recently bought a DJ36...returned it two later and purchased the DJ41. I'm very happy I did. My wrist is about 6.75". 36 felt too small.

The 6 digit 36mm day date actually wears a bit larger than 36mm it wears like a 38mm watch if that makes sense?

7.25 in wrist, five digit day date (wears a little smaller than six digit) more than enough presence with the fluted bezel and president bracelet, IMO

Had a California Dial Tudor Date+Day 36 mm with the fluted bezel. Loved the looks (on my 6.75" wrist) but sold the watch as I found the weight too light. (Gold is heavier than steel so the DD should have been fine.) Hope this helps.

I think the 36 mm is a matter of personal preference. I am sure it will work but it has to work for you. Go try it on.
