Icon20 First post and first Rolex question

Back in 2015 I was attending the Hong Kong Gem & Jewelry Fair and I ended up buying a 2nd hand Steel Datejust dated to 2007 or 2008 "M" letter. One of my jewelry suppliers started selling these 2nd watches, without papers and box. I have no doubt the watch is original, I'm sure it is. I'm just afraid and concerned to take it to Rolex and they tell me my watch is actually stolen! I also wanted to know if it's possible to reach out to the first owner by the watches Ref Number, I mean, does Rolex give out this information in any case? Do they know the name of the person who actually bought it? I feel kind of stupid asking these questions..

Rolex wont let that information out via a phone call / email. If you send it in and the watch is in fact stolen they will confiscate it until the true owner is contacted. If the owner had already had an insurance claim paid out the watch will then go to the insurance company (IIRC)

What on earth would lead you to believe you bought a stolen watch based on the situation described above? What is the additional information to make you believe you might own a stolen watch?

My thoughts exactly.

OP, please shed some light on this so we can understand where you are coming from.

Take out insurance if you are really worried, then send it into Rolex for a service quote.

Generally speaking if you've bought something from an accredited/registered dealer they are required to guarantee title, this title passes onto the buyer.

If the goods are later discovered to be 'hot' you should have some redress against the dealer seller.

I assume you are still in regular contact with the party you bought from?

Or have they since been jailed for fencing stolen goods...

I hate it when we get head-turning stories and never get any follow up.

I don't think insurance would cover a watch confiscated by Rolex because it was reported stolen.

Has your "jewelry supplier" ever sold other stolen goods?

Very strange post.

You would have to clear that with your insurer before taking out the policy obviously.
