Still In Love With My SubC Date

So, lately, I've had an itch to pick up another sports watch. Not really interested in brands other than Rolex or Tudor. At the AD yesterday, I became enamored with a Blue Pelagos. It is a pretty cool watch, and I almost pulled the trigger. However, I did my research when I got home, and realized that I just love my SubC Date a whole lot more. Notwithstanding the engineering behind the Sub (which I totally dig), I simply smile when I look at it ... the chunky lugs, that black dial, the Glidelock, and the ceramic bezel. Wow! It brings me a joy that neither the Pelagos nor any other dive watch has brought me. I guess that's what it's all about in the final analysis. While it would have been nice to have the Pelagos in the collection, I realize that it likely would not have gotten a lot of wrist time next to the Sub.

Still In Love With My SubC Date

To me it's by far the best SS Rolex. I had 3 and each time I sold one it wasn't long before I got one again.

I feel the same way. Maybe get another Sub. LV.

Still In Love With My SubC Date

Big fan of the iconic classics here as well. My favorite 2 SS Rolex watches. Actually my 2 favorite watches as I'm really not into TT or PM.

Yep, my SubC Date is one of my favorites. Feels good on the wrist, and no PCLs to contend with.

Still liking mine after a year!!

I have, however, thought of trading it for a TT Sub or DateJust 41.

However, I just can't part with the SubC.

The answer to your problem is really very simple; buy an LVc. I have both, love both (the LN is my Grail piece) and they're all the watches you'll ever need

I have the no date subc and will (hopefully) never part with it. I've also considered getting the blue pelagos (my favorite tudor model currently), but thought also it may not get enough wrist time to warrant it right now, so I'm still just enjoying the "hunt" for a little while longer

Can never go wrong with the Sub C. It's timeless.

No pun intended.

I tend to agree, but a slight caveat here... I only consider the LN as timeless. This is my view and I'm sure others may or may not agree.

Timeless, for me, was 4 weeks. Now admittedly I did buy a Pre-ceramic Sub Date 16610 in July but not before I tried the SubC several times in several dealers.
I liked its solidly engineered bracelet, the Glidelock (although I had not adjusted my DJ36 bracelet in 15 years), but something led me toward the more iconic, better proportioned, earlier model Sub. Just personal preference I guess?

Anyhow, having fallen into a GMT or Sub "must have" trance and longed to have a Sub on my wrist the reality was that when it was there I just didn't love it.

I tried. I put my DJ in the safe and it stayed there for 2 weeks before I tried it on again. But then the DJ seemed too small all of a sudden and so I persevered with the Sub.

But to no avail. Where once had been a lovely TT DJ now sat a monotone tool for a diver. Suddenly I was shaken back into reality that the watch I wanted should be a thing of beauty, not a utilitarian device. Plus... I'm not a diver!

What was I thinking, listening to and becoming brainwashed by all the Sub hype. It felt flimsy and lightweight. The oyster bracelet a scratch magnet with its expanses of flat brushed links, no match for the robustness of a TT DJ with its fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet's ability to hide any scratches, even after 15 years daily wear!

So, for me anyhow, the SubC wasn't the one due to its proportions, the Sub 16610 seemed to be the one but couldn't compare to the Datejust for what I wanted: just a pure, beautiful, robust, timeless, classic timepiece with no pretentions of being something else, or of making me into somebody else.

I traded the Sub against a TT DJ41 last Friday and now I have closure on my recent watch journey... for the time being anyway.

What have I learnt? That I don't always want what I think I want just because others have or want it!

I'm almost at four years of ownership with my 116610, and I wear it mostly everyday. I smile when I put it on in the morning and throughout the day checking the date and time. It may be the perfect watch for me, and if I was going down to one it would be the keeper.

Seven months into the honeymoon with mine. If I rotate with my other "watch mistress" - Breitling Blackbird - I generally don't make it to the evening before the Sub is back on my wrist. Each to their own but I could not be happier with my Sub C Date.
