Grandfathers vintage rolex
Hello forum
I've come to you for help regarding my grandfathers vintage Rolex, as I have not been able to acquire any information about this watch online. Sadly, he suffers from dementia, so he is not of any help in this case anymore. I would like to know if it would be worth to get it shined up for personal use. So if any of you have knowledge of the year, type or if it should be a fake, please let me know! Best Regards Marcus |

Do you have the watch in your possession? It would be best to take it to a watchsmith and opened to check what's inside, take pics of the movement.

If the case is solid gold it should have UK assay office hallmarks inside the caseback which will provide the exact year.

Rolex 3514
Your watch looks like a Rolex 3514. The cushion case definitely would indicate this model, what does seem inconsistent is the second hand on your watch. The original Rolex 3514 did not have a second hand (I think). I hope this info helps.

I am now in possesion of the watch, because my grandfather sadly recently passed.
I took it by a renowned vintage watch shop, but he couldn't tell me year or model, just the valuation and that it was real, he also opened the case. It should be a manual winding watch. The watchband is according to my grandmother not the original, but added later. It should have been a leather band originally. |

I'm not sure how the vintage watch shop could give you a valuation on a watch they could not identify. Be careful who you take your watch to.

Take it to your watch smith and see what they have to say about it.
