Pre-owned Rolexes pricing in Hong Kong vs Japan
Dear Fellow Rolex Enthusiasts,
has anyone have any experiences on buying pre-owned Rolexes in Hong Kong and Japan, are there any price differences. Heard its cheaper in Japan for new Rolexes with respect to buying in Hong Kong. Have not read about pre-owned? Any info. is most appreciated Cheers B.K. |

From what I'm hearing from friends & family... Japan preowned not as cheap as HK but they're easier to find (as a gaijin/tourist) and their quality of stock is generally higher.
In the past HK might be slightly cheaper but had to jump thru hoops to find a trustable dealer, they'll be located down some dingy alleyway or 5-50th storey up in the territories. Cheap units would look like daily wearers put away wet, whereas ones that look too new to be true generally are - given HK's ample "street expertise" on all things "Rolex" & lookalikes. I'd be more worried about providence than price. If you're only sticking to fancy boutiques then price saving is negligible IMHO. Might as well just play safe with a U.S. reseller. I'm more into vintage though, not huge on latemodels. |

Shopped in Japan annually for watches....prices are generally higher than US and almost all the vintage pieces I ran into were a mix mesh at the usual suspects....better know your stuff shopping vintage there...very few original honest stuff at the usual big sellers around Tokyo. Lot of good five digit or modern examples...but once again priced high compared to US. Wish I could drop by Hong Kong one of these days to try my luck.

Hong Kong is great if you know where to look. Tons of reputable used and vintage dealers grouped conveniently into a few areas, and English is way more widely spoken than in Japan, so bargaining is a lot easier.

If you’re travelling all the way from the US, you might as well consider Singapore too. Plenty of choice from some good dealers but prices can be scary.
