thinking of flipping my 15400

Hey all, later I am having thoughts of flipping my 15400 ruthenium to get a 116618LB/LN. I love the 15400 and it wears so well. I have a 114060. Any thoughts? Not looking to add anymore watches. Just gonna stick to two watches to rotate.

Why would you want a 2 watch collection consisting of 2 submariner? Imo, your current collection is much better but to each his own.

Don't do it! 15400 > Sub. Try to go for 15400OR or the new 15500OR Also, it's not much of a rotation, when it is 2 subs.

Edit: Misread the ref.

I wouldn’t do it if I were you. AP is a whole new experience, and if you just want to keep two watches, it’s worth having one sub and one RO, far better than having two subs in whole collection.

You already like the size of 15400 from your description; so not sure why you wanna flip for something lesser exclusive and you already have in steel?

I have the 116618 but would also encourage you to buy a gold RO if you fancy gold, unless you can trade the sub for the YG Sub. Have one of each brand.

I have an SS 15400 and a YG 116618LN in my collection. Both great watches. I’d try and save some more cash and then trade the 114060 toward a 116618. That would make a very nice 2 watch collection.

Change it to whatever you prefer more – you’ve done the AP RO, so if it no longer really floats your boat, whatever the reason, sell it and get what will.
You can always buy another one or something else that grabs you more than whichever Rolex ceases to give you a warm glow.

As someone who has a solid gold Rolex (126715CHNR, aka the all-rose gold GMT) and a steel 15400, you'll probably miss the 15400. To me, the difference in finishing makes a much, much bigger difference than the use of a precious metal, and the 15400 feels much more special. A few months ago, I was thinking of selling my 15400 and adding another gold Rolex, but now, the 15400 is here to stay and the RG GMT has a flight out Monday.

i have a 116619lb and it is one hell of a watch. pm heft and glide lock. very nice!

i have a 15400st and it is a very different watch. feels more alive, more technical. ro can make the smurf look "lumpen".

if you have no love for the ro i say do it. yg is so warm. great watch. i want one too (116618ln for me). but if you are on the fence?

also i don't know how but i have 2 subs and a dssd in a 5 watch collection and i couldn't see one of them leave and i wouldn't call myself a diver enthusiast so i get a 2 watch 2 sub collection. fortunately since we don't go around telling everyone about our watch collection, how insane or otherwise it might be to anyone else is rarely an issue unless you want it to be.

I wouldn’t - unless you don’t care about the reduction in overall finish, the Rolex is not a match

Negative I prefer your 114060 and 15400 combo. If you want gold I’d go RG AP.

Was in the same boat as you but decided to trade my 114060 for a 116710LN plus cash. Similar look and just as lowkey as the 114060 but much more functionality when traveling. Been traveling with 116710LN and love the multiple time zones functionality + date. See if you can pick one up in a trade at a decent price as the 116710LNs have not gone as crazy the 116710BLNR but the window is closing fast.

Ah I do love my RO as it wears so well and it’s just so subtle in its own way. Just that the image of a YG sub keep appearing in my mind. I wear my 114060 on a pretty daily basis. I do have a 116710LN kept as a safe queen which is my Son”s growing up companion. Anyway thanks for all the sharing! Appreciate it!

Got it! I don’t think I will be able to get the 15400 back if I let it go

Nooooooooooo .... 15400 is (in my opinion) a modern classic. No way I'd let it go. You can always get a Sub.

Going to go against the grain a bit here. The sub you are considering may be technically similar to the one you have but visually it will still give you variety. The AP is quite beautiful but I found the one I had not as comfortable as a sub as the bracelet has no microadjust and the WR and susceptibility to scratches means it needed to be babied more than I’d hoped and essentially became a dress watch rather than a sport watch.
I know I’m in the wrong sub forum to espouse such heresy!

Have both watches 114060LN and 15400ST (ruthenium), I would sell the sub to get a gold sub. Or use it to fund a Yellow Gold Green Dial Daytona. Probably get 9k for the no date towards the 30k for the yellow gold greend dial daytona.

I would keep the AP.
Gold Rolex is nice but its quality is nothing compared to AP.
Perhaps look into adding the gold Rolex later?

I wouldn’t do it. Two modern Subs is too much imo.

thinking of flipping my 15400

I have both of these, they’re great pieces. The gold sub is every bit in the league of AP.

If I were you I’d launch the steel sub for the 116618. It won’t get any wrist time after you get the gold one anyway.

Keep the AP, it’s an iconic part of any collection and a great switch from the gold Sub.
