16750 matte dial GMT, crown guard variation.

The crown guards on the 16750 matte dial GMT look different to the ones on the earlier 1675. Does anyone know if there was much variation?

Was the original line on the crown guard always in the same position? I know that the matte 16750 had 2 different dial forms, mark 1 and mark 2. (I'm not including the later glossy dial variant) but was the case the same throughout?

Here are the best examples I could find.

Thanks!

The lines on the GMTs are all over the place, not unlike the thickness of crown guards on the vintage Submariners. Nothing is 100% the same on these older watches.

Thanks John! Have you ever seen 16750's (matte dial) with crown guards similar to the ones on 1675's (see pic)?

Yes I have. Some do, some don't

Also, I would not consider that insert or bracelet correct for a GMT 16750 - although the insert seems very nice and is from an earlier era.

All of the older Watches where polished by Humans so there will be differences in crown guard thickness and lug thickness as well....Part of the charm in my Eyes. The Sea Dwellers in particular had thinner bevels and crown guards compared to the same vintage Sub.

Thanks for the info. Here is one from 1983, it does seem that the crown guard ridge was more or less pronounced and wasn't always in the exact same position. Compare this one to the 1st picture.
