Send to Cartier or GM for service?

I purchased a NIB Ballon Bleu from a gray market dealer. It came with a stamped, dated warranty card with serial number. The stamp is from an AD in Paris and there is a blank space for my name. The watch stopped running a few days ago. The GM says to send it to them for repair and not to Cartier because Cartier will be able to trace the number and know I didn't purchase it from the AD stamped on the card. The GM says Cartier won't honor the warranty and will charge for the repair.
Is the GM correct? Or should I send the watch to Cartier?

I'd send it to Cartier. I had a good experience with their service center in Dallas. They may not honor the warranty, but that's the risk for going grey. Is there a Cartier boutique near you? Maybe Saks 5th or Neiman Marcus? I had my Santos serviced through Saks 5th.

If that doesn't work, at least the ETA movement should be easy to service anywhere.

Great news! I just heard from Cartier and they are going to honor the warranty. They said the watch needs a complete service. I find that hard to believe since it is a new watch. However, they are not charging a fee, so I'm fine with it.

Thanks for the responses.
