3035 movement

Anybody have any long term experience with the 3035 (pre 3135) movement performance wise? Good, bad, ugly and pretty characteristics?

IIRC they stopped production in late '80's? The folks who have held onto those are now vintage or almost there. If you're contemplating a 3035 based model, then the issue will be condition and a good service history.

But the movement itself did have several non-Rolex components they bought from suppliers if that makes a difference.

My 16800's 3035 has been accurate for the 30 years I've had it. Serviced twice in 30 years by Bexley UK, no parts required and still within specs.

Well you could say the same thing about the cal 3135 for many years they used the ETA Nivarox escapement parts.Basically the 3035 is a high beat version of the 15XX series movements and IMHO the 15XX were the finest movements Rolex has made. But myself have not heard of any major problems with the 27 Jewel 3035 it was in production for around 10 years, until the introduction of the 3135.The main difference between the cal 3035 and the 3135 is the jewel count and the balance bridge, and the hairspring. Now in the 3035 its glued on to the balance cock stud now they are laser welded on 3135,and to to set time ahead on the cal 3035 the crown is turned counter clockwise. On the on the 3135 to set the time ahead the crown is turned clockwise manual wind perhaps not as smooth as the 3135 but as far as I know a fine reliable movement as all the Rolex movements.

The reason I ask is the date seems to get stuck when changing overnight. The quickest aligns and works perfectly...and it only overjumps when changing automatically overnight only showing the bottom 75% of the date number. I just had it serviced by a certified Rolex watchmaker and it is still out of alignment. It is the original datewheel from 1984, but if it was worn I'm sure the watchmaker would have seen that. Still waiting for his response.

Sounds to me like it needs to go back to the repair guy. Should be perfect if serviced properly.

Had a 1980 DJ with the 3035. For two years it averaged about +5 seconds per week! Rock solid accurate movement in my experience.

Its possible there is a bit of oil on underside of date wheel try cycling it around a few times that might help or perhaps no or to much oil on the date change cam.
