I've been searching everywhere on google for this answer, because I thought I remembered reading something like only 5-10% of rolex watches produced are Stainless steel, but when I was just thinking about it, it doesn't make sense, since I seem to see way more, or as many stainless as gold.

Does anyone know if they make more of one or the other, or are the percentages public knowledge? I am almost positive I read something about it here a year ago, but I can't find it now.

They definitely make more steel than gold. Nobody knows the exact percentage other than Rolex. Main reason being that more people can afford to buy steel so they sell more.

Which was my thought process, but I swore I read somewhere that majority of watches made were gold and there was a small percentage 5-10% that was stainless. Made no sense though, its driving me nuts trying to remember what was being discussed.

Anyways, thanks for clarifying!

They can't make many gold models. People on here have most of the gold already.

definitely yes.

Rolex would probably sell 1 sold gold rolex for every 20-30 Stainless. Their gold models aren't exactly cheap

It would be the other way round about 5-10% gold others SS and mixed metals gold watches in general are quite slow sellers.

My guess is SS being a huge percentage of sales.

I thought I had heard that only 5% of the Daytona watches were SS, seem to remember reading it a couple of years ago, did not think it was correct at the time but hey ho, we read a lot of things online

Interesting question. With TT models included, I'd be interested to know what the actual figure is. However if you think about it I think a hundred percent of all Rolexes have gold in them. I believe the markers and the hands are white gold on all Rolex watches.

If you figure that you can get a substanual discount on any solid gold Rolex at an AD and not on SS sport model can mean a lot. Most SS don't hang to long in the dealers case and most of the time there is a waiting list.

TT, esp the DJ, are big sellers and to women as well, but I'm sure SS models far outsell all others. I can understand more TT and PM Daytonas are sold than other sports models as I've hardly ever seen a SS one in an AD's window yet seen plenty of other Daytonas every time.

Depends on the series. In the Professional (Submariner, GMT, etc.) at the AD where I work we sell about 75% steel, 20% steel and gold and 5% PM.
