Icon6 Rolex Submariner 1680 - 1977

Hey guys, brand new to the forum but wanted to do my due diligence before finalizing a sale and you guys seem like a very knowledgeable bunch.

I own a Rolex Submariner 1680 from 1977. Its been in my family since then from what I have been told but I do not own the box and papers unfortunately.

I have called around and sent in photos to a handful of places both locally and on the east coast and have received a range of price offerings from 5500 on the low end up to 10 on the high end. The catch is the higher offerings have been those on the east coast which require me to send it in via insured Fedex Overnight. Part of me wants to take the lower offer as its check in hand as I can drive to the store but I wanted to get your opinion on shipping a watch as that would net me a larger sum.

I am new to the watch selling game so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

For what its worth the retailers on the east coast are all authorized dealers via Rolex dot com.

Hopefully I am not in the wrong place on this forum to ask this type of question and forgive me if there is a million similar posts.

Thank you!

Do you have any pictures of the watch? I am not a dealer but have been looking to buy a 1680 for my personal collection and would potentially be interested! I'm located near SF and head down to SoCal occasionally, so maybe we could work something out.

I will say that $5500 is much too low for this watch, so please don't take that offer. I hate to see people get taken advantage of.

It’s hard to tell what your watch is worth without looking at it more closely. I’m certain you’d have the initial offer renegotiated from the east coast dealers. There’s a happy medium somewhere.

Take the higher offer and send it FedEx priority overnight insured. It'll be fine. We're talking thousands of dollars at stake.

I buy watches that are sent like this; FedEx, including from overseas. My boss buys rare numismatic coins and they are sent like this first for approval and if he doesn't want it, it gets FedExed back. I see you're from CA. I just sent a Rolex FedEx overnight to the watchmaker from NJ for service and bracelet stretch repair. Zero issues. He covered the shipping charge and sent me a label cause he gets a discount with FedEx and will bill me on the back end when I pay for services.

It's how transactions are handled from a distance. Or you can send Registered Mail. But the $100 shipping charge is peanuts to the thousands you'll reap in rewards. In my opinion, these places probably have their own FedEx account so if they really want it you can negotiate the shipping cost. They can eat the cost and send you a prepaid insured label for the box. Hey someone here may want to buy it! There's a whole buy/sell section with heavy pieces on it.

I would love to see the photos of the watch. I have the same watch and could never part with it. No matter what it's value is, my own 1680 was a gift so I will wear it till death, and maybe afterwards.

I work for an orthopedic surgeon and one of our patients is a retired grave digger. He's told me so many stories. Your watch would be stolen before your body was cold. Sadly. That's of course if it is your intentions.

Happy to shoot you the photos via email, appears I have to have the photos uploaded somewhere to link them here which I do not.

Shoot me a message?
