Workhorse 4 digits?
I work on motorcycles, and my daily watch is a 1675.
It's not that original, and has the service dial and hands (Which I personally love. They glow like a torch at night!) It gets banged around a bit, but has proven to be pretty reliable after my watchmaker sorted it out. Anyone else out there have a 4 digit that gets used as a daily outside of an office? |

Not by me, but I think it's pretty fair to say that the previous owner used my 5513 as a beater.

Since 1996, until recently, I wore my grandfather's 1968 5513 all original except service crown. He wore it daily for decades. I'll post a picture later. I've purchased a few more watches so it hasn't been a part of the rotation as heavily as it once was.

I like beaters more than polished and puttogether. Toolwatches.

I bought a 1680, when I lived in Texas, in 1980 to wear for scuba diving, mostly in the Caribbean. I wore it every day for the next 22 years. Back then nobody cared that you had a steel Rolex. When it got a beautiful patina no one noticed, not even the owner. The plexiglass crystal didn't chip or shatter if you dropped your watch or smashed it into a piece of diving equipment. I don't remember anyone ever commenting about my great watch when I was diving. A new regulator, buoyancy compensator, or wetsuit got lots of attention.
Until I moved to New York I didn't even know there was a place where you could get your Rolex serviced. I know it's hard to believe today, but steel Rolexes really were just durable tool watches way back when. |

I can't take credit for all the scratches, but I wear my 5508 for everything.

I like it that you’ve had service parts on it and that you appreciate their purpose. That’s different and refreshing from what we mainly read on this forum from time to time.

I sometimes take it of if I'm using a jackhammer or a tiger saw through steel but most of the time I forget...
