I'm new to fine watch collection, but I do have a collection of watches as I have saved every single one of my watches since I can remember, to include an ESQ Centurion (used on sale for about 75 dollars on ebay) and an Armitron All Sport that my parents bought from Wal-Mart for probably 19.99 about 15 years ago. Now I have beefed up my collection with Rolex, Omega, and Breitiling (thanks to ppl on this forum), but I'm not going to get rid of my old ones. Besides the fact that they are a creation of art and ingenuity, I like my watches because they carry a lot of memory in them since I wore them more than any other piece of gear/clothing that I had. So, resale value is not a big deal for me, BUT I do have to make sure that before I buy it, I like the watch enough so I can wear it for a long time and not get tired of it |

Watches are not investments.
You can loose money on a Patek, Rolex or a Breitling. You're not buying stocks or bonds. Buy a brand new YM or EXII at RRP and try to sell it a few months later, you are going to take a hit and that will easy be $1,000+. Think of those guys who paid $15,000 for a Milgauss GV, if they sold it today they are going to loose something like $10,000. I ain't seen anyone take that kind of hit with a Breitling

what i've gathered from this thread is buy grey or used. but that's probably good advice for any watch as long as you know where to find the right sellers.

Unless you're anal about warranty, going gray is the best. Out of the 6 watches in my collection, only one was purchased AD. I haven't had a problem yet. YMMV.

Oh Yeah...they depreciate really fast but nonetheless, great looking watches. No company has a line as deep as Breitling.....every type of watch in every type of combination...sometimes I think its too much.
Anyway, wait 'til these babies come out....they are sure to be hot, hot, hot!!! |

Here's an advise from a Breitling owner - if you really like it buy from an AD, mainly for warranty purposes but don't pay retail. Haggle it 30-40% from their list.
Breitlings are great watches, all are COSC certified - may not appeal to everyone as they are function watches ie. aviation. Their case sizes may also detract some but if your wrist can sport it go ahead. I have a 7.5" wrist and the Chrono Avenger always sits great on my wrist.

This is a buyers market. I've been flipping Breitlings at a 20% markup after getting great lightly used ones for a fraction of the AD prices. Remember, watches are like mini realestate investments. If you buy something, and resell it at a 20% profit, the sixth is free! Don't buy anything that won't resell later for what you have in it. Some models just don't look good, and aren't investment worthy, but may fit your wrist just fine!

I thinking the better question is why has Breitling raised prices so dramatically? Is it a weak dollar, or are they smoking something at Breitling HQ? In my opinion, if you are buying a watch to impress others and not for functionality, respect of fine workmanship, or beauty, than maybe the money would be better spent on a good therapist!
