How do you feel about Breitling timepieces?

I have admired Breitlings for years, but have never purchased one.

Are they as good as they look? I am rather surprised that more WIS's don't own one or two of them and they seem hard to resale.

Any discussion?

i have had a dozen or so over many years. only kept a ss superocean as it was comfortable on the rubber strap. heavy discounting and very high retail prices have put some off. imho. m

I respect the brand, I think they make fine watches. However, most designs are way to flashy and bling for me.

What about the movements? Are they in house or does Breitling take another makers movement and make it their own?

If you know a link where I could read up on them I would appreciate it. I have Googled, but am only turning up generic stuff.

I own two of them and find them to be very nice high quality watches. In fact I bought one for my Son when he graduated from high school. I find the bracelets superior to the Rolex bracelets.

They are starting to make in house movements, my one chrono uses a 7750 that Breitling re-builds. If you have a Breitling dealer near by stop in and get a Chronolog, if not contact Breitling via web and they will send one to you. One of the nicest brochures out there.

Some look OK, some don't. I can't say I would ever purchase one.

I don't feel much about Breitling.
I like the Advenger Chrono in Titanium that is about it.

Most are too blingy for me but I really like the Superocean Heritage - except the size. They make it in 46mm (too big) and 38mm (a tad too small). I may still get the smaller one someday.

I like the looks a lot. In fact, I like them VERY much, bigger sizes and a little bling.

However, if you buy it, you'd best plan on keeping it forever because resale isn't too hot on these babies.

I bought mine at a heavy discount, so I'm not too worried about the resale concern.

I like the first generation titanium Chrono Avengers and a nice white faced Navitimer. Some classy looking watches.

I forgot to let you check out my Chronomat Blackbird that Scott was adjusting for me. They are a favorite of Breitling collectors and not much seen.

I saw it a little when you were handing it over to him. It had a black rubber strap right? He fixed my Sandy 660 yesterday in about 20 minutes since the crown was coming off when I set the time.

Yes, it's on the rubber BREITLING strap, know as the Hershey strap by Breitling folks. The bracelet that one can get for it is a very nice one at a cost of $1000.

I love Breitling. I have a SS Superocean which I wear as a daily beater. very solid, strong and reliable timepiece imho.

Have these 2:

The Stainless Steel/Gold Navitimer "Cosmonaute" is a beautiful timepiece...the original flew in space with Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter on Aurora 7. The Stainless Steel B1 is pure technology and functionality in a modern quartz movement.

Some of the nicest cases/bracelets out there IMHO. Coupled with their aviation heritage it's a great aviator style watch but with enough detail and styling suitable for wear on any occasion. They also sponsor a lot of aviation oriented endeavors...their sponsored balloon that traveled around the globe is in the Smithsonian Air & Space museum.

Can't really comment on the resale aspect....I know Breitling don't police their ADs as vigorously as Rolex which may affect it somewhat....that plus they introduce new/updated models regularly rather than update their classics only.

Ditto the recc. to get a catalog from an AD...really enjoyable read.

Works for me!

PS- All ETA movements...new in house "B01" movement being launched as we speak!

I love many different brands of fine timepieces but not a fan of Breitling.

I don't know what it is about them .... but something turns me off big time.

I love my Super Ocean Steelfish. It is a fantastic piece that has the look as well as the durability. It feels like it could withstand a beating. I also like the SS brushed band better than my Sub's.

I have a Colt GMT, looks nice and works v well as a daily beater. my only concern about them is that they update/discontinue/change their models quite fast.

I LOVE my Super Avenger...but to be quite honest - I only purchased it because I bought it from the original owner who is a close friend of mine for next to nothing. The price really attracted me to make the deal, but once I put that bad boy on my wrist I knew I was hooked.
