Help! Advice on my first vintage Rolex buy

I am looking to buy a vintage datejust, and I really like the patina on this dial:

https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...grey-dial-9176

I need help and advice, this is the first time I am buying a watch.

Is the polish too bad?
Is the price ok?
How much does it matter the value the new hands?
How much does it affect the value the dial issues?

Thanks a lot for your help and patience with me :)

I would start by saying that "seller" is not really known for having good prices, though this one does seem in line with similar watches on other sites.

I can't speak for the polish, but it definitely not a light polish and still has a few good dings on the lugs.
Any non-original parts will hurt the value to some extent, but I could not give a %.
The dial is the one thing on this watch I really like, and I bet the lavender looks really great in person. Any dial that has faded into another color seems to add value, even when the color is ugly.(like "tropical" subs).

I know I haven't given much help, but I am no expert for sure. Hopefully someone will add some more help.

If you want a 50yo classic, can't go wrong with a piedish!

Can't be denied its been restored & fixedup, imho price sounds inline with today's crazy priced offerings.

Treat it well and it should tick for another 50yrs

It looks it's age, not really a negative, it's a lovely old vintage Rolex. The positives are strong, that gorgeous dial and it's managed to survive 50 years mostly corrosion free. It is getting harder and harder to find DJs that don't have terminal rot in the gasket channel, huge plus for me.

Don't worry a moment about the service hands, simply doesn't matter on a DJ. It has a nice period jubilee that wil be the most comfortable watch bracelet you've worn. :) Resist the urge to 'fix' it, if you get it just live with it for 30-60 days before you do anything to it, you may find it's perfect just as it is. :)

Here's my '68.

Is that a matte dial? what a perfect DJ! I love it.

Thanks for the help, I am also in love with the faded dial.

I've also noticed on the pictures that it has a ding on the glass on the 8 marker.

Should I just go for it or wait for a better unpolished case or cleaner dial?

Is there any other trustable dealer you guys can recommend?

Again, thanks a lot!

Yes, standard black dial. Crystal is easy to replace if it bothers you. I notice that watch was sold, was it you??

No, it wasn't me, I slept on it and it was sold the other day.

Too bad I really loved that patina.

I'll wait for another one

Thanks a lot for your help

For future reference, the HQ Milton guys are great. I've been to the shop a couple of times. Jacek is very active on TRF.
