I am not saying it is any more or less private, I don't need to read someone's blog (or whatever your link is) to explain obvious things to me. My point is that Ebay is specifically looking for people trying to do an end around to skirt Ebay fees. Send a message with a phone number, email address or cash offer and it WILL be noticed.

Gmail watchers only care if your building a pipe bomb...or considering a new car purchase.

Some people make for good sheep. They say, "I don't care, I have nothing to hide."

Lenin called those people useful idiots.

Knowing now that my conversations are harvested, screened, and monitored, I'll be more careful in how I communicate with others. I was just surprised to get an e-mail with my entire conversation played back to me. I guess I assumed some modicum of privacy.
I’m surprised that you’re surprised.

Between all the companies selling your data, NSA snooping, computer hackers and almost daily news reports of your information being used as well as Facebook users giving away all their information to their “friends”, being shocked by all this seems like you just left Mayberry and arrived at the big city, a sadder but wiser man.

If I ever want to have a private conversation with an eBay member, I contact them and ask them to send me a message at my name at an email account that a giant web search company that begins with g offers.

Or something like that. I wouldn't use the "@" sign of actual name of email provider as I imagine eBay will easily mine for that.

On the subject of making deals out of the platform.
I booked an AirBNB apartment outside of the website. Got screwed with no internet and no hot water.

Saving a few bucks just to get a good deal sometimes bites you in the rear :)

I was a fan of Don Knots as Mr. Furley more than Deputy Fife.

I guess surprised like, "Oh My God!!" surprised, is not what I meant.

17 years on eBay and this never happened to me before, that's all. I was "surprised" to get an e-mail with our whole conversation pasted in.

Ebay is good for buyers, for sellers, it's an absolute joke. I recently sold something and had two buyers in a row not pay. There is zero recourse for sellers. You just have to relist.

eBay topics come up every so often here and usually they boil down to what you just said.
Lesson the be learned is that you shouldn't sell on eBay unless you have to. Let them make revenue only from Chinese sellers and to slowly dry out.

Exactly.

I have sold an Apple watch twice and have now had two non-paying bidders. I am glad EBAY is reading their messages to see how stupid some people are. I only hope their accounts get closed even beyond the non-paying bidder strike.

This is exactly why I never watch tv without my tinfoil hat on....everyone knows this blocks the ability to record.

eBay monitors and reads your messages

To be fair to Ebay, another example of them highlighting it.

It's no secret...

Never was a secret some just don't read.

And again I am glad, you should see some of the messages I get. I copy to the listing with my reply and I am glad when EBAY reads them to see just how strange some people can be.

I got banned on ebay for a month or so for giving my contact information to a seller.

I just wanted to talk on the phone because I hate sending messages and waiting for reply.....

eBay started a pilot program this last summer to allow you to add a customer service number to handle post sales questions. Big deal. Why don't they just reduce their fees and provide real protection for buyers AND sellers?

I have been on eBay since 2003. I've exchanged info through messages as well. But, I make it a point to include that the transaction must take place on eBay. Never been banned. Maybe worth a try?

Sold a few items today on Ebay. Rarely read all the fine print but seen this in one of the message bodies and thought of this thread.

"We scan messages to enforce policies. Only purchases on eBay are covered by the eBay purchase protection programs. Asking your trading partner to complete a transaction outside of eBay is not allowed."

Its good to play by the rules, then you have nothing to worry about.
