Vintage Seiko Grand Seiko Medallion
I have a vintage Grand Seiko 5647-7010, the gold medallion is peeling off , is this normal ? Is this medallion a solid gold inserted onto the caser back , or just a gold colored foil type glued to the case back ?

The medallion is solid gold.
I've just had one from the first Grand Seiko chemically analysed and it is 14k gold. I suspect that they stuck with 14k throughout the vintage era, but I will get later ones tested in a few weeks. Kind regards, Gerald. |

I guess you mean 5646-7010 not 5647-7010. Do you have a photo of the medallion? They are convex so there is a visible hollow space underneath if they start to break up or wear down excessively, which could look like peeling. There are also fake medallions around, too.
