RO in WG
Any thoughts on ROs in WG? For me I prefer SS over PM but…
Thoughts? |

Depends on the model. Frosted openworked WG doesn’t look amazing imo, but the new WG jumbo is amazing. Overall, the WG models are definitely my fav although most would argue that the yellow gold is best (and hardest to obtain)
Steel RO is obviously great and is the most iconic steel sports watch Overall, I think it’s worth the extra money to go WG to have that stealth wealth factor. Only those in the know would notice, and that’s the only people you want noticing anyway |

Thanks for the reply! What do you think about gold as a material over steel? For me a concern is it’s malleability - the watches are scary enough for scratches and all, but I’d be dead scared of chipping gold.
Also the heft of gold vs steel would also make it less “sporty” which is kind of what I was looking for in an RO. |

That said, the smoked blue dial WG 15510 that had a few-week existence on the AP website earlier this year was definitely my favorite 15510 so far.

Thanks, good to see it's back. Curious what availability outside of Japan will eventually be.

If you weren’t a fan then honestly I think you made the right decision. They are expensive watches to not be sure and you’re right, gold is likely to show wear and tear faster than steel and that’s saying something on AP’s! |

Interesting - any WG, or one model in particular?

Trying to get my hands on a 15510BC..... I love white gold watches. To the untrained eye it passes as steel but the wearer can feel the heft of gold and know that he's got something extremely valuable on. My wife says it's the feeling of how she feels when wearing nice lingerie, other people can't see it, but she knows........ haha.

I've been hounding my SA for one in white gold but keep getting offered up steel ones instead - so quite the opposite of what you're experiencing. |

The other thing to note on WG is the hue of the metal is warmer and brighter, much more so than SS. The brushed WG finish on AP is truly remarkable and you can really tell the difference between SS, TI and WG. 15202BC and 25960BC are two of my favorite WG models, hoping to pickup the former sometime this year.

The OP was offered a 15510BC but was looking for a 15510ST, and understandably had concerns about daily wearing a gold watch.
Given what they cost I certainly can’t blame him. I would love to see the dial on those in person though!! |

Now in deep regret - at the least I should have said I’ll think about it. I inquired again but it was allocated to someone else. |

The 15510BC.OO.1320BC.01 is also great, probably the only watch with diamond indices I would consider.

I was at the Tokyo boutique yesterday and told my SA I wanted the 15510BC with smoked blue dial and that I’d fly form California to pick it up - she said she’s see what she could do. 250 pieces (not sure if that means annually), but Japan only so not that many boutiques to split it amongst so I’m hopeful someday.

I know this is my first post here but I just came across these forums after searching for the reference number.
Unbelievably fortunate to be allocated the first piece last week. The dial is absolutely incredible. Photos simply do not do it justice. |

Amazing! First = your first AP, or the first they delivered?

Apologies for my late reply. To clarify:
1) From what I was told, until end of July this year, the watch (and the other two WG smoked dial 2023 releases) will be sold exclusively in Japan. The production of this particular piece is expected to be 250 in total worldwide. This may, of course, change. 2) This is not my first AP but it was the first to be delivered by the AP boutique. I recognise how fortunate I am - in the sunlight the dial is just incredible. |
