5712g + 116519 = 5712/1a? Trade?

Hi,

I have a wonderful 2021 5712g, but I feel the steel with the bracelet and the blue dial is the hold grail for me. It is just something missing without the bracelet and while the grey dial on the G is nice, the blue dial on the 1a is really, really special.

I can trade the G and a Daytona 116519 towards a 2020 (unused) 5712/1a with noe cash involved.

What do you guys think? Is it a fair trade?

Best

C

Would never do that trade. Especially 2 gold pieces for one steel?

I personally find the 5712/1A to feel too busy. The grey on the 5712G executes it much better IMO

I would not. I prefer the G and would get a rubber strap for it and wear it with reckless abandon :)

I would because if I had the 5712 and the 116519, I'd rarely if ever wear the Rolex over the Patek.

I can see why most of the responses will be no, but the trade would work for me.

You would need to be certifiably insane to make that trade imo.

The trade sounds to be fair, price wise.

I’d say go for it as that’s what your heart is inclined towards. However, I’d keep the two pieces as opposed to the /1A.

I’d much rather have the stainless 5712 than those two WG pieces. As for the trade, that’s up to you.

Not a good trade. Once you get used to the heft and density of precious metal, the 5712 will feel dainty on your wrist. Unless, of course, you have other PM pieces in your collection.

i tried all 3 when they were largely available 8 years ago 5712a / g / r.

As it happens, i also owned 2x 116519s....

I ended up buying a 5712r which i still own after all this time and have no regret.

HOWEVER, i had the opportunity to buy a 5712a for £19k and tried it on, i must say it wears VERY differently to the 2 precious metal iterations. It is -for me- the most comfortable watch of this type I ever put on. I regret not buying it to go alongside the r.

Conclusion, the ideal combo is to have both 5712a and 5712r.

Whilst I previously owned 2 116519s, i would not have another one, they wear very oddly. Very TOP heavy watches, they never sit right on the wrist. Always feel like they are about to fall off if it makes sense.

On balance, i think i would do that trade (if you owned a 5712r instead, i would NOT do the trade).

One last point to consider, it is a curve ball... remember that the 5712g has long been the least desirable of the 3 and probably the least produced as well. Would not be surprised if this becomes the most collectible in the future.

I am not sure why on earth you would do this trade. I would keep what you have and maybe try to work out a deal on the 5712g for the 5712/1a if you really want steel and bracelet. I can see some redundancy between the 116519 and 5712g however, so one could make an argument to get rid of it for the 5712/1a and that combo would diversify you a bit more. But I would not get rid of the 116519 and have two 5712's.

2 gold pieces for 1 Steel piece because the hype market says so.

i think this hobby is about selfishly getting yourself what you desire

want the steel nautilus => i'd go for it

(assuming sensitivity to price fluctuations etc. is not an issue, and that the deal is fair wrt current market values and watch condition)

Terrible trade if I've ever seen one. Price wise it's relatively fair in current grey conditions but to trade in two PM pieces for a piece that until 5 years ago could be had for less than $20k???

Personally, I do not think it is a good trade.

That said, as a 5712A owner, I would not trade my 5712A for your 5712G and Daytona 116519. So, I am a walking contradiction.

No offense but suggesting 5712/1A could be had for less than USD 20k until 5 years ago is more than misleading. In mid 2018 you had to pony up USD 40-50k depending on condition.

I think if the Daytona was on a bracelet I wouldn't but in this case I'd do it.

While I understand the WG > Steel points, the 5712/1A is SO much nicer (imho) compared to the WG... The steel bracelet wears absolutely incredible and the blue dial is FAR FAR better than the slate gray (again, imho).

It's up to you if you decided (or not) to go with this trade, but I will say with 100% confidence that the 1A is amazing and you will absolutely enjoy wearing it.

Thanks for all your help! I pulled the trigger. It is all about feelings and the 5712a is the most beautful watch I have evner seen. Silky bracelet, perfect proportions and that dial! I even got some cash my way.

No regrets!

Looks great! I’d rather have that than the other two—and narrowing watches down often is nice.

Congrats! For me the 5712a is just spectacular and a piece I hope to own before it gets discontinued. Hope you keep the wrist shots coming!
