I think the 36 looks better than the 41.

Yes it's tiny. Ladies commonly wear 36mm now. Step up to the next size (thank me later)

Never did understand why 36 vs 41 is even a topic of debate. It's all relative and neither size is better or worse over the other. You should wear what is proportionately befitting to your own height, body, arm, wrist and hand size ratio.

YG anything including YG 2-tones wear loud in general and 41mm DJ is a MUCH bigger unit than a classically sized DD36. There is nothing cornier than seeing someone with a smaller body frame and wrist wearing a big watch that clearly wears too big on them.

Telling someone to "step up to the next size" because it is "too small" is as pointless as being told to wear a larger shoe size because it'll make your (insert expletive) look bigger.

This is how the DD36 and DJ36 sits on my 7inch wrist. They are both extremely comfortable and for me, there's so much gold here that anything more will be a bit much stylistically. But that's just ME. YMMV

These are absolutely perfect on you.

What a lot of people don’t realize is that the 36mm looks amazing worn a little loose so that it wears low on the wrist. That’s the OG bracelet look. They are so comfortable worn that way unlike a 6 digit sub which would drive you nuts if worn loose.

If you wear a 36mm tight and halfway up your forearm on a decent sized arm, it’s going to look small.

i think it's actually really uncomfortable to wear a gold watch loose. they're heavy and end up flopping around all over your wrist. i was in between sizes and it was either too loose or too tight so i had to get a 1.25 link to make it snug to the point where it doesn't move but it's not tight to the point where it hurts. it would drive me crazy when it had room to move because of the weight

i guess it also depends on what kind of wrist you have but generally found a lot of people here feel the same when it comes to PM watches

I guess I should have been a little clearer. What I meant was that wearing what some might consider a smaller watch on a wrist that can easily wear a larger watch (but wearing the smaller watch a little looser) is perfection imo. So for me, wearing a 36mm loose feels and imo looks great given my wrist size (7ish) whereas if I wear it higher up my arm it looks a bit small and I’m better off wearing a 40-41 with a snugger fit.

36mm always for these classic watches. It’s not the size but the proportions.
And no yellow gold would be my vote. White metals. Always white metals.

First, should say, totally agree with that assessment. Second, and far more important: forget the DD, that DJ is very cool and quite unusual (at least rarely have I seen a full-PM six-digit DJ36 aside from the strap versions).

36mm Day-date felt Small

Hey, we all certainly have our own opinions. I think the 36MM is perfect on the daydate size. So classic.... The newer 40mm is gorgeous, but does wear large. i have had both and prefer the 36mm... I have bigger Rolex watches, Daytona, SubC, Explorer2 even a Skydweller. Still think the DayDate classic size is 36mm

Cheers!

The 36 is Steve McQueen. The 40 is the Rock. Give me the 36 DD the classic.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I have done a ton of research and I’m almost at the point where I’m going to pull the trigger.

My 3 options right now:
1. Daydate 36 diamond dial naked - 24k (2008 heavier clasp)
2. Daydate 36 white Roman numeral naked - 22k (2001 older clasp)
3. Two tone datejust 41mm - 15k (complete set 2019)

Which 3 given all that info would you guys pick?

Honestly, for my money, I’d be pursuing a brand new DJ36 TT from an AD. Not that hard to get and not nearly the same need to know exactly what you’re looking at and how to evaluate one vs the other.

If I’m doing a DJ I’m going 41 not 36

I have a 34 Air King, a 36 Day Date & a new 41 OP Blue. I wore the 34 AK for 23 years as a daily & never thought of it as small. When I bought the 36 YG DD, I could tell it was a bit bigger & was happy. I bought the 41 OP last month because it was easier to see at night & with the lume, is great.
I'm not bothered by wearing any of them....It's all good!

Diamonds if it’s for my wife otherwise, not feeling diamonds on a man’s watch dial. I used to own the white Roman dial day date 36 but it was destroyed when I wrecked my Harley. It was the perfect size watch on my 7 inch wrist. Wish I still had it…

I’d go with the DJ, TT, 41, Fluted with Jubilee. I love the Wimbledon dial, had one until a watch nerd friend talked me out if it. Go with the dial you desire.

I was going to disagree and say get the DD, but see you're in SATX also so I'll let it slide. lol

agreed

OP, if you've worn fashion watches or G-Shock or anything like that in the past, those tend to be really large, and will make this feel small by comparison. It isn't, we promise, it looks great on you man.

And, of the 3 options, I really like #2, but it's personal preference.

All that said -- if you think we're all nuts and you want the Datejust 41, just get it dude.
You'll only have regrets if you don't go with your heart/gut.

Option 1 because it has heavier buckle, but think you can negotiate a better price

I agree with those who have said that the Day Date is supposed to look smaller than any dive watch like a Submariner.

While I prefer 40mm watches in general, for the Day Date the 36mm is the way to go. Go for a 6 digit version 118238 with slightly wider lugs and that will make the 36mm size wear larger. Also, for the 36mm size, go for a lighter dial color like white or off white.

What about a 18238 Day Date mixed in with a 1601 Datejust?

Best of both worlds for less than the 118238?

Then you have a quintessential classic rolex dress watch collection.

I have a 7-3/4” wrist and wouldn’t consider a 40 mm DD. With the 36 mm you get to enjoy much more of the bracelet vs (IMHO) a hubcap on your wrist.

Most of all, like others have said, personally I wouldn’t rack up a bunch of debt with what it sounds like you’re looking to achieve in the near future.

Just my opinion.

Best of luck on it all.
