I go to Cairo often for work and always wear a rollie or AP. Never occured to me not to, and never had an issue.

I am not aware of a high crime rate is Egypt.

However, do what makes you feel safest!

I find it a little distasteful to wear such a high value item when visiting a developing country like Egypt.

You already stick out like a sore thumb being a tourist in such a place, no need to bring more attention to yourself.

Apologies, no offence intended...what I meant was lower gdp/capita than where I'm from.
Love your country btw, have been many times!

I'll only be in Cairo for a few days, the majority of the trip will be in Sharm.
There's also the whole hotel safe can of worms to consider. I want to take my rootbeer but wouldn't be wearing that in the pool or when diving. It would be for the evenings only.
I've been all around the world and personally speaking I have NEVER had anything stolen from a hotel safe

The sticky post at the top of the forum should be "Buy a Tudor for international travel. No one ever gets mugged for a Tudor."

Of course it is, safer than many parts of London that's for sure.

I'm on a world cruise again next year and going by the schedule we are in Egypt for about 5 days. (It's a tad confusing and we await clarification from MSC so it might change) 2 of which are in or around the Suez.

Date: Wed 17/01/24

Port: Port Said / Egypt

Arrive: 06:00

Depart: 09:00
( 3 hours is a nonsense)

Date: Wed 17/01/24

Port: Alexandria / Egypt

Arrive: 20:00

Depart: 23:00
(And do what exactly??)

Date: Thu 18/01/24

Port: Passage Suez Canal / Egypt

Arrive: 17:00

Date: Fri 19/01/24

Port: Passage Suez Canal / Egypt

Depart: 16:30
(2 days to pass the Suez !! )

Date: Sat 20/01/24

Port: Sharm El-Sheikh / Egypt

Arrive: 08:00

Depart: 18:00

Date: Sun 21/01/24

Port: Safaga / Egypt

Arrive: 07:00

Depart: 21:00

…....................
In brief:

Date: Wed 17/01/24 Port: Port Said / Egypt Arrive: 06:00 (Jump ship 08.00)
Date: Sun 21/01/24 Port: Safaga / Egypt
Depart: 21:00 (Back on board by 18.00)
..........

Having done the Suez this year anyway I'm thinking of jumping ship and visiting the sights (sites)
Egypt has always been on my bucket list way before the term bucket list was ever thought of.
I understand there isn't much at sharm or Safaga as I don't dive (l tried but due to an inner ear injury as a child it's very troublesome for days after ) and with my recent cancer tumour removal I have to avoid sunbathing so these are pretty much wasted days for me. I guess

This means we could self transfer from Said to Safaga and visit the 'must do's' of Egypt

How easy, safe and most of all reliable is transportation in Egypt?
Hints tips and handy travel information most welcome esp from residents

And on topic, my Rolex will be in the cruise ship safe during this time.

If there is space for two cars they will be able to fit three, insane.

I never felt unsafe or feared getting robbed but some hagglers literally pulling and touching you got me into several altercations. These guys are really nasty and ruined it for me.

It would be much safer to wear a Rolex in Cairo than any major city in the West, e.g. Paris, London, New York, Miami, LA, etc ....

Not to enter into a political discussion, but statistically crime rates are much lower (relatively) in Muslim countries.

I've been going to Morocco quite frequently since the early '90s, and I always chuckle when other New Yorkers ask me .. "Is it safe there?" You gotta be kidding.

That could be because of underreporting, corruption or just bad data collection.

Perhaps, but the same could be said for the U.S. and Europe, where even the reported crime rates are relatively very high.
