Better two watch combo : gmt/dj41 vs sub/dj41

For the latest iterations, which one do you think makes a better two watch do-it-all collection? Although it boils down to which function you want, but aesthetic wise?

GMT II + DJ41 (your choice of configuration)

vs

SUB41 + DJ41 (your choice of configuration)

Strictly from a day to day usability perspective, I prefer the timing bezel on the Sub to having multiple time zones. Even when traveling, it’s not that annoying to add or subtract a few hours but I can’t for the life of me remember when I turned the water sprinkler on. I time things with my Sub every day - even more than when I wear a chrono, oddly enough. So for me, Sub + DJ.

Thanks for chiming in. So far tie at one a piece lol. I will place my vote when upon reading the other comments :) For the record, I’m not trying to decide of what to purchase or get rid of but rather reading material and general consensus.

Honestly, I'd say sub no date and GMT on a jubilee. I don't see the need for a DJ in today's world.

Would love to see @Dougiebaby has to say as per his videos, he no longer has the DJ41.

Gmt and sub aesthetic is very similar. The one material difference is whether you want the additional color on the bezel, the gmt is obviously a bit more flashy for this reason. But those that want color with a sub can go the Starbucks route. Outside that it’s just the brushed bracelet vs PCL or jubilee.

The similarity in design is the reason why I haven’t gotten a sub (plus the fact I don’t feel I need another dive watch. Have the bb58 and an omega SMP 300m).

So the main reason is the history and function - do you appreciate the pilot history more or the dive history? Do you travel (or need to track different time zones) or do you dive (or want to time things)?

I can’t argue with this. Having a blue fluted on Jubilee for four years now, I tend to find it too dressy for my needs. Although looks ok with jeans and a shirt, I don’t think it’s proper. But it’s good to have one for an occasional dress watch. Besides, I don’t think I can ever let go of that blue dial!

100% Sub41. The GMT has massive lugs and bezel is way too busy.

I could not disagree more.

Both are great. They damn near look the same and GMT is a nod to the fact that you’re into watches. Any non watch guy I know with a Rolex wears a Sub.

I’m sure it can go the other way to having the sub to be too plain jane.

I thought it has been recently confirmed that Gmt lugs are thinner than the super cases…

I had the BLNR and Sub41 at the same time. After having the much improved case of the 41, all I saw was lugs on the BLNR. Wait until Rolex fixes this, the GMT would look fantastic. Hoping for smaller numbers on the bezel as well.

Had them both, to my eyes they are a huge difference. The new sub is much improved.

Sub and DJ.

The answer, aside from personal preference, also comes down to whether or not you want/need the GMT function.

If you don’t need the GMT function, the sub imo has a nicer bezel, a less busy dial (especially if no date), brushed CL’s that wear better over time, and the best part….it has a glidelock adjustment which is awesome as these watches are a bit chunky and the extra adjustability is great.

So far the grey market pricing of the GMT does not live up to the hype. Just my .02

100%. Don’t get me wrong there are great watches, but I admitted before the chase was much better than the prize.

I love the GNT but the bracelet is too shiny. The Sub is pretty much perfect in all aspects.

Aesthetic-wise, Sub41+DJ41 is all you'll ever need.

I think people like the idea of traveling or being worldly more than being a diver. I assume also with the sub being the “iconic tool” watch for Rolex, it’s produced in higher numbers than the GMT. Hence the higher premium for the gmt

Another vote for the Sub and DJ. Prefer the font on the bezel of the Sub better and the timing aspect is useful. Multiple times indication is not so useful to me. Plus, the GMT is a pain in the neck to set the date.

Sub with the brushed oyster glide lock and timing bezel for casual. DJ 36 with fluted and jubilee for dress FTW!

Sub and DJ wins... yet GMT grey price still way up there. Do they manufacture more subs perhaps?

How about a Submariner or GMT and an Explorer?
