Disneyworld with middle schoolers

We are going to Disney/Orlando in a week for 5 days. Our kids are 13 and 11. Any suggestions on things to definitely do, or to avoid?

If you need a touristy break from Disney recommend downtown Winter Garden or Winter Park on Park Ave. Nice walkable streets with plenty of restaurants/shops and for the latter you have a train station and nice park area.

Learn the App the best you can. Helps out a lot with the ride and restaurant reservations.

Also definitely check out Rise of the Resistance at Hollywood Studios. The Star Wars stuff there is amazing.

We love WP and are close by. Orlando Watch Co on Park Ave is well worth a visit. David SW of course is worth a visit. Two places that I visit maybe too often

I've done this with kids and grandkids in different decades.

I definitely think Disney Springs is a good afternoon walking/shopping/dining option.

From my experience, kids that age, these days, would probably be bored at Disney World...Magic Kingdom or Epcot.

Universal Studios is usually the must go to for middle schoolers. Hollywood Studios is next.

Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy are musts for the kids. You will probably love Avatar as well. The Magic Kingdom is a good memory for the kids.

Rise of the Resistance wasn’t worth the 90 minute line IMO. It’s mostly a slow ride on a hockey puck through full scale movie sets. The kids might like it if they are Star Wars enthusiasts, but otherwise, it’s kind of boring.

Get the app well before you go and learn to navigate it. It’s poorly laid out IMO. Go to one of the many Disney fan blogs for all the app hacks that make life easier for you.

If you want a break from the parks, try Disney Springs. It’s basically an outdoor mall, but has a broad selection of restaurants and things to do.

All the theme parks, lthe shopping outlets are cheap I mean cheap my biggest tip is try and stay at the best hotel you can with a good pool, lazy river etc etc, shuttle bus from parks.

You generally need down time and a day here and there at the resort is almost better then the parks.

Enjoy.

+1 on Disney Springs. That’s usually my first stop on the day I arrive. Flying from Philadelphia we usually get to Orlando at around noonish. Disney Springs is a nice relaxing spot for the day of arrival imo
