One watch? Probably this guy. Total tool watch. I'm going to spend way more time outdoors, in the water or working with my hands than I am needing a dress watch (and when I do, the Seadweller will do).

That would be my choice as well due to its simplicity and versatility but I'd hate to only have one watch.

Simple, robust, and versatile are key.

For me the IWC Mark XV still does the trick. Great tool watch on the pyramid bracelet and back on the strap it doubles up as a sporty dress watch.

This.

(Or the Explorer for me) If it has to be one watch for life, it needs to be simple, versatile, and classic. OP39 is also great for this. A Reverso is tempting too, but the WR is nothing to speak about.

Though I would prefer the Explorer, I'd argue the datejust is more practical for an only watch due to the useful date complication.

The watch I would want is the Rolex Daytona with Black dial. That is my dream watch.

I will have to go back to my first Rolex that I gifted my son. I wore it for 35+ years. Hopefully my son will wear it for 35+!

As the only? Simple choice - my Batman. It is durable, precise, has a second time zone, a date with a magnifying glass, sufficient water resistance for swimming, requires inspection every 10 years. That's probably enough ...
