good think is there are about 600 variations of the royal oak - jk I know what you mean

Yeah I asked him about that. He essentially said any of the main Royal Oak line and even the Offshore line. Maybe some of the concept could be had but those aren't up my alley.

Remember when there was no hassle in watch collecting? You wanted something, it was either sitting in the glass case, or you could put in an order with a deposit and it arrived two to twelve months later?

My watch collecting journey has really been in two parts:
2002-2008: the good old days where I bought a bluesy and Polar Explorer at a discount, and turned down Daytonas and a Kermit frequently.
2018 Current: the opposite of that haha.

From what he said they might be easier, but "available" isn't the right word haha.

Ming has some new pieces coming out soon. Very honest and fair about releases too.

would have been shocked if that is the case. but love the flying tourbillon gmt - one of the candidates to only eat ravioli from now on and to start living in a tent on the street as a result of buying it :)

Don’t see how it’s BS? The AD almost certainly has more demand that supply right now and therefore is just saying it how it is.

OP - good decision, life is too short. And if you waited two years to buy at Retail, you may have found that Retail at that point is more than grey today!

I will say that the blue is absolutely stunning. I also heard (may not be true) that for blue in particularly Switzerland HQ needs to review and approve. So basically no chance at all for a first watch from AP straight from the boutique

That's the message that I had been hearing as well. I appreciate everyone's feedback on this matter and as you may have seen from my incoming, I decided to go gray and couldn't be happier!

Not necessarily true, I know of two people who were able to get blue 15500's as their first AP.

Me too. My 1st AP was a blue 15400 from the boutique. No purchase prior

I think you were super lucky, it won't happen to most people.

I was at my boutique recently and they said they have not received or anticipate receiving any yellow gold watches (2020 and 2021).

Said there was a problem or something so they stopped production.

I don’t believe it.

Anyone else hear any news on yellow gold pieces?

Congrats to the OP on your purchase. I agree with others, if you must have the blue dial, pay the market price and enjoy the watch. It only makes sense to try and get one for retail if you already have an established relationship (years of purchasing) directly with AP.

To others on this board trying to get anything other than a blue dial (SS 15500, 15450, etc) I highly recommend only talking to the corporate owned boutiques. In the last 6 months I have received 2x “hot” pieces from a corporate store with no prior buying history.

There is strong evidence to support that non-corporate boutiques are selling most of the hot pieces they do receive directly to grey dealers. Those chrono24 listings you see are mostly grey dealers who know they get the piece at retail from an AD and don’t even have the watch on hand...

If you are giving a deposit to one of these AD’s, just know you are pretty much giving them a no interest loan that they will pay back in 6-12 months when they give you the news that you won’t be getting an allocation.

Great info! I’ll need to track down the nearest Corporate owned boutique.

There are only two that I’m aware of and they are both in NYC. I did everything by email, text, and phone with my SA and it was a flawless transaction both times.

I had call last week with the Vegas AD. They were saying that any blue dial as a first purchase is all but impossible. They said that staying touch for another dial could be possible in a Royal Oak within the year.....

BUT if we want to buy a Code series watch then there is a chance of getting bumped up the list.

Tough times, but making the connect, swapping cell phones and texting every so often....anything is possible.

The Vegas Boutique was one of the two that I spoke with prior to my original post. I really enjoyed the conversation with the SA and felt like he was very up front. I think it's very hard to start a relationship with a phone call. I'm excited to begin traveling again and make it to Vegas or Chicago and give it a try.

So the Vegas and Dallas AP stores don't count as Corporate?

Dallas is 100% a corporate boutique. They pulled the AD license from eismans to open it.
