Daytona Homage Surprising.....
So I’ve been on this watch journey for a long time, nearly two decades, and I’m not scared to admit that it started to low end low cost watches, then homages, then the real thing. I consider that an experience that makes me appreciate the collection I have and feel content. That being said something crops up from time to time that catches the eye, or in this case is out of reach, unless of course there is a reasonable alternative.
Always liked the Paul Newman Daytona but I would never stretch that far for a watch. Still need to scratch the itch though and notice the Gevril Tribeca is far more reasonably priced but out of production for many years, so finding a good one is not that easy. Also a voice in my head saying that paying Omega money for a Gevril makes no sense at all. Now I’m surprised to stumble on this brand Alpha. Never heard of it before but by all accounts the only thing they produce are homage watches. After watching and reading many reviews it seemed a no brainer to try their own PN Daytona Homage for less than $200. Having now received the watch it’s actually not bad. The bracelet is garbage so switched it immediately for a vintage look leather strap. The winding motion on the seagull is smooth and the chronos work without issue. I chose the model with the closed case back as that’s closer to the real thing plus who wants to look at a decorated seagull anyway!!! Also the size of the case is just around 39mm, a tad bigger then the original but I prefer it. To add to the vintage feel it has this domed crystal and looking forward to scratching this up a little to give the older feel. Overall I’m quite pleasantly surprised by this watch and looking forward to seeing how it stands the test of daily wear. It doesn’t belong in a safe with the luxury watches but it does offer that vintage look and vibe for a fraction of the cost so if that’s what you’re looking for then I’d definitely recommend it!! Looks better than the Daytona but there again I'm no fan of that watch.

If I was to ever buy a Daytona homage, it would for sure be the Gevril Tribeca.

Are those lume plots on the sub dials? I need to see a night shot of this.

All Paul Newmans have lollipo markers on the subdials, right? Did any Paul Newman have screwdown pushers? Just curious.
